Sansui Seven Vs Sansui 2000X

Hi everyone from audiokarma
I am thinking of purchasing a Sansui receiver
I have 2 models on radar: Sansui 2000X with wood case and ina good shape, and Sansui seven in a good shape too, but with woodcase needing restoration
Seven has problems with the outputs, but I think I can fix this myself.
The 2 are very original internally. So, both need total recapp.
Prices: Sansui 2000X US$ 150 and Sansui seven 120 US$
In your opinion, what is the best buy?

I'd take the Seven over the 2000X. Seven has more features, inputs/outputs. If you want the "warm" slightly distorted sound of early Sansuis then go for the 2000X, but if you want clarity and detail, then the Seven is the one to get. Value wise, you are getting more with the Seven even if they were the same price.
 
As an owner and admirer of the 2000X and it's characteristic sound, even I have to say the Seven is the better choice out of the two. As Keith pointed out, it has more in/outs for better versatility and is arguably a better main amp design, even though the 2000X has a good solid output stage. And in this case, the 7 costs less. Even considering the work it needs, I'd say go with the 7.

Now, if you are looking to build a collection, that's a pretty good deal on a 2000X of you were to consider buying both. But I gather your objective is only to grab one of the two.

Actually, my first purchase intention was 2000x. I read a lot of good things about it, and I have a sansui 500 to ma .pair with it...
But then I read a lot too about Seven, and a big question popped ni my head. I've thought about buying the 2 ... but I have many vintages yet ... I think it's time to be more objective (lol)
I will think until tomorrow, which one to buy.

Once I'm with it, I'll post pictures here.
A doubt. The front panel has a plastic finish around the dial glass, which have a silver line, like brushed silver, in the black finish.
Do you know any way to redo this silver finish (restore brushed silver) on the black plastic?

As you suggested, I bought the sansui seven.
After a first treatment, general cleaning and deoxit, I redid the power suply and protection board (recap and some resistors sub). Also, i redid the driver boards (small transistors and capacitors) and the eq. board.
I have to replace the eq board transistors, and do a completely job in a tone board. I also need to remove a gray oil paint in a the wood case ...
yesterday, I listened the 7 for a hour... what can I say? Amazing quality. Really one of the best receiver I've ever heard. Then I ask me: Why didn't I buy a single digit before?
I will post some pics here, in the next days
Now I'm looking forward to finish the service, and enjoying this seven drinking a good beer.

Great! Glad it turned out well. The Eight and the Seven I have both sound great. I give the edge to the Eight. I just can't stop listening to it!
 
Hi guys
I am working on my seven.
The FM section is really fine. Very good sensitive, and stereo is working perfectly.
The Tune Meter VU is OK.
However, the meter signal VU is frozen. It does not move in any situation.
Any suggestions on how can I try to find the problem?
Board? Voltage? test on VU?
I appreciate your help

I was searching a sansui 2000 (a or x), 4000 or 5000.
As I found this seven, I decided to ask here at AK.
The seven sounds really good. I like a lot.
But I'll keep my eyes on a 2000, 4000 or 5000. Prices are very inflated here, so the search ends up being slow.
I have a fisher TX 1000 amplifier, that I believe is a cap coupled. The sound is very close to the tubes ... warm and hot, and I'll never let it go.

Man I'd like a 6/7/8 series, but waaay to rare in Aussie, I do have a 2000A and 5000X though.

I just love how my 5000X sounds through my AR5's, my 2000A is as nice sounding but doesn't give the punch I like to feel, so for flexibility with speakers I'd be going for the 4000 or 5000. Enjoy the 7 :)
