Sansui SP-7500's worth $100?

Committed

My smoke got out again
There's some SP-7500 locally for sale for $100, says excellent condition. From what I've read these do not get good reviews. I'm wondering how they would be on my garage system, a Sansui AU-X501 integrated amp with 80 wps.

I've also read that the enclosure is small for the driver size. I am not opposed to building new cabs if it's worth the effort(I'm a carpenter/contractor so no biggie)

I live in a small town rural area and finding good used equipment just doesn't happen often.

TIA

2 things.

1. Speakers are worth whatever you are willing to spend on them. Have a listen to them and decide. I had some 2500s and couldn't get rid of them fast enough, but who knows maybe the 7500s sound great. It is up to you.

2. You could ask about the merits of the 7500s', or what the speakers sound like, but questions regarding value of gear should be in the "Dollars and Sense" Forum. I suspect the thread will be moved by the Moderators soon enough.

My bad for the wrong forum - newb ignorance I guess

The guy doesn't have anything to hook them up to, and it's a 30 mile trip one way....so it's a crap shoot on my part. May just save my money until something better turns up :scratch2:

Id just bring a crappy receiver and a couple feet of speaker wire. Hook it up and flip it to FM.

Right on, I've got a Sansui R-30 sitting here which is small and light, good idea. I bet he'd take $50 for them. He told me he gave away all his other equipment, including a big old Sansui amp(his words), RTR, TT and some other stuff

I concur with the rest. For $100, I'd have to pass. I picked up a pair of them about 5 years ago for $20 and sold them off after about a month. I really tried to like them....the cabinets were nice and the workmanship was great. But, to me, it's like putting 10lbs of poop in a 2lb bag....there was just too much going on and they couldn't best out any other pairs of speakers that I owned.

But like was mentioned, it's about what YOU like and what's available in your particular area.

Pass
You can do ALOT better for 100 w polk , infinity etc .. Polk 7 comes quickly to mind . Get speakers from the speaker people .. nix sansui

I think it all depends on pairing. When I had a pair of sansui they sounded good when I first got them, then I got other speakers and then they sounded not as good as I initially thought. No matter what amplifier I put them to, HK, Pioneer, Rotel, Yamaha I didn't like them. Then when I sold them I had it hook up to a very bright amplifier and I swear they sounded surprisingly different, in a good way. Don't have them anymore but the new owners like them.
