Sansui SR-636 protective film removal?

Hi Everyone I noticed my Sansui SR-636 has some kind of plastic protective film over the metal panel with the buttons. I'd like to remove this film if possible, but I am worried about lettering and residue.
Has anyone tried it? Is it safe to remove it?

Nah ... go for it. That protective film should peel right off, usually in one piece. They use the same stuff on serial and model plates as well, so maybe check to see if you got something like that to practice on. In any case, metal plates like that will usually be embossed for durability.

Thanks! In this case the lettering seems to be only painted and does not look embossed... if it comes off with the film for some reason (it's been there 40 years after all) it would be a disaster and would ruin the turntable cosmetically, I definitely do not want to experiment on it...

BTW, of course an SR-838 would/might have the same type of protective film, so anyone with an SR-838 who has experience taking this film off the control panel please share.

It took a while, but here is a short update: just last weekend I decided to take the protective film off. It came off in pieces, unfortunately, some larger, some being just tiny shreds. The film left a yellowish residue that looked horrible, fortunately it came off with a bit of IPA and a lot of q-tips. A couple of photos of the residue and how it cleaned up are included below, perhaps someone would find it useful. The lettering was not affected in any way despite the scrubbing with alcohol. I'm quite happy with the result, I have new silver feet from MNPC Tech on the way so these fit together nicely.

Thanks Guys, the 636 is a fantastic table indeed and I love mine. The previous owner(s?) never took off that film on mine and the film had a yellowish tint after all these years.
The best thing about the styling of 636/838 is that it does look modern also today, many of friends who visit us can't believe it is a TT from the 70ies.
