Sansui TU-555 Stereo Lamp

I have a Sansui TU-555 tuner, and the stereo lamp is not lighting up on stereo channels. I have examined the lamp, and I cannot tell if it is defective (it's very small). This may be a silly question, but how can I tell if I'm receiving the channel in stereo, since the lamp is not coming on? I don't want to cut the wires and splice in a replacement until I'm sure the lamp is the problem. Is it possible that there could be another problem? I have an antenna connected properly, and the controls are set to receive local channels. The selector is set to "FM Auto" and has been cleaned with Deoxit. Thanks!

You might also be de-tuning, or de-sensitizing, your tuner to set it for local channels.

Yes, I mentioned that in my original post, that the switch is set for local channels. I’ll try the headphones this evening.

And what did you find? Curious minds want to know.
Unfortunately, I found two or three new projects. When I determine if there’s a problem with the stereo or the lamp, I’ll post about it. A very nice girl gave me a carload of electronics free, and I got some tweeters for a KLH Model Twenty Three speaker project I had underway. I had dragged out the AU-555 and TU-555 since I was at a standstill with the KLH speakers. Thanks for inquiring.

KLH-23? I have a pair, and I REALLY like them for a two-way speaker, especially linked to a pretty clean-sounding Pioneer SX-750:
