Sansui TU 9900 "glass"

Hi folks. Lately it seems that several Sansui TU 9900s have been showing up on ebay with cracked glass. I know that the "glass" in the TU 717 is plastic and that it is not just one flat piece. Would anyone know what the TU 9900 glass is, whether it has any writing on it, and how hard or expensive it is to replace?

Thank.

Marc,

My TU-9900 has real glass covering the face. The words "FM Stereo" "AM" "FM Auto" and "FM Mono" are silk screened onto the back of the glass.

If you could scan the lettering (assuming its intact) and keep it on file, find a printer that can silkscreen the translucent ink in the correct position on the glass, and have the two holes cut for the tuning and selector shafts, I think you'd be in business.

However, considering the cost to do all of that, it makes one wonder what would cost more. Making a replacement or just finding another nice faceplate.

Hi mjs1,

I bought a TU-9900 with a crack in the glass. My tuner did not have anything on the glass so I took it to a glass supplier. For $75 he cut a piece and drilled the necessary holes. One day service.

Good luck.
