Sansui turntable recommendation?

I also have this Shure V15-3 cart from a Dual 701 I own. What do you think?

Great cartridge.
No doubt a V15-3 will pair very nicely with the SR-222MkII.

I have one with a Jico SAS stylus on a Sansui SR-525 TT and to my ears the V15-4 and V15-3 sound very much the same. The fact both have a Jico SAS stylus will probably also be of influence on this

But as with all carts, all will depend on the stylus and it's condition.
I have found the generic ones often (very) dissapointing. I now only use Original, NOS or Jico.

Good posts here ! I have a decent collection of Sansui Quad stuff and some stereo . I found that the better the stylus / cart , the better the sound (less crackle pop). Before acquiring my SR929 and 838 , I used a FR 3080 with a AT 15 cart and Shibata stylus for my discrete vinyl. I had another 3080 with a elliptical stylus setup for mono , stereo vinyl. When I played a vintage record on the elliptical I would get some pop / crackle. When I played same vinyl on the Shibata , big difference. I am guessing the Shabata stylus is able to go into the groove farther where the wear is less. Just a GUESS!
I am not a fan of the conical stylus.

I don't know if it is up to the standards you set for turntables, but I found a mint Sansui P-L75 linear computer controlled that i added to my collection. You might take a look if you can find one.

For him, that turntable is most likely not. And another that is high failure rate, difficult to repair. And no cartridge choice available. And also when Sansui was past it's best era.

Almost had a notion to sell my SR 525 but before long realized that it was a great turntable, the simpler all manual operation a definite bonus and the fact that I have only noticed two others for sale locally in the last 5 years.

I have two, an FR-25 belt drive I bought new in 1982 with a Stanton 600 cartridge and elliptical stylus, and a P-D10 I bought my Mom at the same time. The FR-25 has an S arm, the P-D10 has a carbon fiber straight arm. Bought Mom and OM-10 cartridge, it's currently set up with a Stanton 681 I got for next to nothing off eBay.

Probably need a new belt for the FR-25, haven't used it for more than 29 years, but I suspect it will work as well as it always did.

Not high end tables by any measure, but I have always liked them.

Chance encounter with a nearly perfect SR-838 at my local record store! Super fortunate to find it here, from my local record shop of the last 30+ years, at what I believe was a very fair price. Even came with a 6 month warranty.

Brought it home this evening. This machine is HEAVY AND GORGEOUS. Spins so quiet and smooth. I love the design build, the direct drive, and that it is manual.

Came with a Grado cart that apparently houses a new needle. Also included the original manuals and schematic. The full package. Original mint cord ends and even the grounding spade connector is perfect. Looks like they acquired it from the original owner and it must have seen very little use. I couldn’t be happier.

The only flaws are a few barely discernible scratches near the platter, and the arm rest latch is broken.

Next up I’m going to try some different cartridges.

Fun to read what seems like a really old post, but only a year later. Still adoring my SR-838 that I ended up with thanks to the recommendations here.

I am now looking for a "timber" Sansui turntable. Sansui produced lots of woody turntables and I am not at all familiar with the hierarchy of them. I am planning to use this one in my QSD-2/AU-555a X2 Quad setup playing SQ and QS vinyl. I have a NOS HOMC cart in hand. Just need the right Sansui turntable.

What are Sansui's top "timber" turntables that folks like/recommend?
