Sansui VU Meter repairs

Hi All,

I have recently found a technician in the US that can repair Sansui BA 3000 vu meters if they fail. They have already repaired one and are doing another for me. I have no affiliation to these guys just sharing in case anyone has a good amp with a faulty vu meter they might be an option. They are charging ~375 USD including 110 USD return freight (I'm in Australia) to get the VU meter fixed.

Excellent information there, even if it's a touch on the pricey side. I'm left to wonder if they would do repairs on other level meters, Sansui or otherwise. I'll file the info away for future use, even though I've been very lucky not to encounter any damaged or failed meters yet.

I think they do all vu meter repairs, and not just Sansui. So should be at least an option to look at. I tried to source second hand VU meters and 1 person was selling 2 Ba 3000 vu meters at 1200 usd I think!!!! This is way cheaper at least compared to that:)

I think I saw those meters for sale. I paid less than that for the whole damn amplifier. Some parts sellers need a reality check.

Lol agree. Just checked them again and he's reposted at 1499 Euros !!!! Or 2500 AUD which is what I paid for the amp. Haha

They did a BA-2000 meter for me quite a few years ago now (there is a thread on this back in 2015). And it was a tad cheaper than the OP’ recent experience. They did a great job on the meter I sent them. (And if anyone is shipping a meter, it is good practice to short the meter input - this dampens the movement whilst it undergoes the vagaries of transport bumps, vibrations etc)

l need both meters on my AU70 repaired, never really look at the things and at that pricing dont think l want too.

@Sansuiman have a question on the BA3000. I have 2 now.. want to run in Mono.. my technician suggests that based in general method of bridging there might not be speaker protection in bridged mode.. I have new focal sopra 2's and don't wanna blow them. Any idea if it's not safe to do so, does this amp still have speaker protection in bridge mode? I can't run at full power as well cause the speaker max rating is 300W.

That's a very good question, and
one I can't answer. I've only one BA-3000, and have never run it bridged mono. Hopefully someone here with direct knowledge of the bridged mode will supply an answer.

Thank you for the reply. Hopefully someone here can answer the question.
