Sanyo TP-1012 Problems

I picked up a Sanyo TP-1012 at a thrift store today and am having the following problems:
  • Tonearm will not lift during auto return. I can lift it manually just fine.
  • Tonearm lifter has lost dampening.
  • Warped platter. Not sure if there is a real fix to this, but I thought I'd make it known anyway.
Any ideas on how to fix?

There is no service manual on vinylengine, so the best bet would be to either take it apart and have a look at how the auto return works, and figure the problem from there, or give it to a skilled technician. The same mechanism was probably used on other sanyo turntables, so you might find a service manual that is gonna help.

How much is that platter warped? It looks to be aluminum, and I have never seen one of those warped. Unless someone sat on it.
 
So I have a bit of an update. I examined the platter a little bit more and determined that it's not warped after all. Must be a bearing issue. Still not sure how to fix that though. I'm also still working on my other issues, but to no avail. If anybody has any other suggestions I'd be happy to hear them.

The Sanyo TP-1012 is a direct drive turn table with a sealed motor.

I have another update. When I took off the platter, I saw what looked like electrical tape(?) wrapped around the center spindle. I took it off, and now the wobble seems to be greatly reduced, if not gone entirely maybe. What I'm trying to focus on right now is my auto return woes. Whenever it auto returns, the tonearm lifter doesn't come up at all so it just drags across the record and the mat while it returns to rest. I can manually lift it just fine, and I checked the cueing height and that's good. I tried watching it work and nothing popped out to me then. Any tips?
 
You will help us help you if you post some pictures of the mechanism. As you have seen it's not a common table and, there being no Service Manual readily available, we would be flying blinder than you are.
 
Any tips on getting down in there to clean? I tried taking everything apart and still couldn't get very far. What looks to be part of the tonearm assembly was in the way.

Take some pictures of the lift and set down mechanism under the turn table tone arm pivot.

Should be cognizable. :idea:
 
Ok so it's been a little over a week and I'm still chipping away at this turntable. I was able to get to where the tonearm lifting mechanism lies and took this picture of it. Is there anything out of the ordinary here (besides the mess; I'm currently working on cleaning it)?20190621_160515.jpg
