Satellite speaker recommendations?

Ok, here is what I am trying to do. I have a Kenwood 700 series setup with floor standing DCM and Advent speakers. I want to get rid of the floor standing speakers (to recover the floor space) and replace them with some wall mounted satellites/small bookshelfs and a subwoofer. I will have three rooms (A, B, C).

Now, for the rub. I don't want to sacrifice any fidelity. Are there any small speakers out there now that can deliver big performance? I would like to limit the size to around 15"H x ~10"W x ~12"D. Any such animals out there?

Just looking for anyone's experience with this.

Thanks in advance!

Look for some Optimus Pro 44's (now RCA's) I don't think Radio Shack sells them anymore, but some stores may still have them in stock, or you can find them on E-Bay. Great bang for the buck.

fujimo,
WHile I don't have them, I did listen to them when I was speaker shopping a couple of years ago. I made direct comparisons between them and NHT SB2, Ascend CBM-170, Athena AS-B2, and PSB Image 2b. All were driven with my NAD T742 receiver. The Axioms were my very close second choice. They image very well and are very detailed. I liked the tonality of the PSBs just a bit better and that is what I purchased. Had I not done the comparison, I would have been very happy with the Axioms. They have great customer service as well as does Ascend. One other company I really like is Onix -- another on-line only company found at av123.com. I listened to their Rocket RS250 and now discontiued RS150. Both were more laid back than I am used to but they are very nice looking speakers and have a solid following. They are coming out with some new products that may interest you. Hope this helps!

Fujimo,
I was going to answer your post the other day, with the Axiom suggestion. So now I am forced into it. I do have the Axiom M3Ti. They are great stand alone speakers that do not really need a subwoofer to give you the impression of full range sound, but would probably go along with a subwoofer really well. There is a bit of a bump in the low bass to make this happen, but it does not sound bad. So they will work well as one of your choices for any of your three rooms that does not have the subwoofer. They can be wall mounted with brackets from Axiom. Axiom does indeed have great service (and I found out about the AK website from the Axiom user boards). If you research more on Axiom, you will find lots of people that like their M22Ti even better, but it costs more. I did a brief comparison with my brother-in-law's pair. The basic sounds and imaging were from the same mold, but the M22 has less bottom end, perhaps more linear mid to treble end of the spectrum. Using the Eagles Greatest Hits, it was easier to follow the bass line with the M3, while the banjo work was more noticable with the M22. With a sub, the M22 would actually be the way to go for the really best sound. Without, I guess I did right in getting the M3. I do like them very well (but they won't replace my big main towers, ever).
This is one reason why I did not post the other day. I was musing that really the only way you will gain floor space is to wall mount them, but that may not be the optimum setup for your room. Many people (me too) use them on stands, so they end up being the same footprint as a floorstanding speaker. And the floor space taken by the sub will be just as great if not more than a pair of full range floor standers. If it is in an otherwise unused area, then I guess you do gain something by the change.
And further this musing is based on assuming which speakers you have. If by DCM you mean the orginal Time Windows, then I am not sure that the Axioms will really sound better - I auditioned the Time Windows back in the late 70's and was very impressed. So I did not want to really suggest that you don't do what you have set out to do, when you started the thread. Now, if you have something else from DCM, I cannot speak on that. Likewise, I preferred the Large Advent over many other choices back in the mid 70's when they were new. Unfortunately the Advents were not a big enough step up from the KLH 17s that I had to justify the expense at the time. So there is another speaker that I am just guessing that you have, that I might not want to replace if it were me.
Sorry to try to talk you out of doing what you want.... But the Axiom M3Ti is one of the better choices you could make if you need to.
And then send your Time Windows and Large Advents to me!!
