Saving a Hitachi HT-MD03

I found it recently and was thinking if it was even worth saving and what I needed to buy for it to work, if there even is a point in trying to do so. It also has this weird cable, cheers.

It would be way more trouble than it's worth to do any mods needed to make it function as a conventional, stand alone turntable.

It was part of an inexpensive system where it received power from the center component - amp, receiver or whatever.

It likely needs DC voltage to make the motor run so you would need to obtain an AC to DC converter of the correct voltage and polarity. I suspect, that cable bundle is short so new shielded cables of sufficient length get installed with RCA plugs on one end so as to plug into conventional amplification. .

Without those modifications, that turntable is useless except with the exact same system it came with.

If the needle is intact, salvage that or, the entire cartridge if it can be detached and re-used. Maybe even the belt if it's not stretched out or rotten. The carcass then goes for recycling.

62vauxhall has good advice. However, if you like it and got it cheap enough (free), it might be a project to play with. The service manual for the system is available online.
On the other hand, you should be able to find easier TT's to salvage from garage or estate sales. I have found plenty that way.

Honestly, I would use it to clean records if I used wood glue to clean records.

Not worth it. Not a great table even if working like new. Very limited in cartridges, T4P only. Like others said, there are a great many TTs that would give you so much more bang for the buck and with the same effort.
