Saw a Oral Surgeon Yesterday

I'll just say that if your dentist tells you he's sending you to see a Oral Surgeon it's not going to be a good day. I wasn't told what was going to happen in advance (maybe the dentist didn't know)and it was worse than I could have imagined. I still haven't had the nerve to take a good look in the mirror to see how bad it looks!

There is a bright side to this, it ain't the urologist! Seriously I feel for you and your wallet. I had a molar that got infected a few months ago, dentist said I needed a crown at $2K. I said no way pull it but no one would do it, finally it split in half and I found an oral surgeon who pulled it for $375.

That's about the same story I had except I had already gotten a crown on a cracked tooth and a root canal now he pulled half of it out.

I know what you mean!

My dentist referred my to one with copies of x-rays. I have molars in the back that are lying down under the gum. Geesh! He said he has never seen anything like that. With that said I have yet to see an oral surgeon.

Also, on the proctologist, a prostate biopsy that I had with 15 snips on each side was the worse thing I have ever experienced on a painful level. My kidney surgery didn't feel that bad without pain meds. :D

Just be sure to ask for the good drugs.

Absolutely.
On a serious note, do some research on the drugs you get. I had my wisdom teeth taken out this year, and ended up with a C. Diff problem afterwards. I read up on the drugs I was on, and it is known to cause this problem. I should have done it before I got sick.

When I had my wisdom teeth pulled I was given a Valium drip then plenty of Valium tablets for later on. I don't recall it being unpleasant.

Sorry to hear of your ah, experience.

Back in 1983 I was told by my Australian dentist in the UK that I was calcium deficient. Said I needed a few out, when prompted he said quite a few. I then inquired how the rest would would fare, and was told that eventually they would all be gone.

I asked if I should go Private - he said the pain was the same either way except that going Private meant I could really use dirty swear words at him with the pain waking up after the op.

As an aside I asked him if that was his 911 Carrera 2.7 outside, he said it was. I asked if the teeth job would be a few payments on the Porsche. He said at least. Could he promise I would never have another toothache or abscess? He said yes.

I said let's go for it, at least my money was going to a good cause.

The pain was excruciating with three dry sockets while healing and that is what he didn't tell me about.:scratch2:

I can think at least I helped a fellow car enthusiast realize his dream Porsche.

Better days ahead.

How does he pull out half a tooth?

The tooth was cracked verticly with the smaller part on the front so he removed the crown and the front part of the tooth and the one root that was attached. Not doing too bad this afternoon, just taking Motrin. Now I'll need a new crown at some point in the future.

The biggest pain I felt dealing with a oral surgeon was in my wallet. They always gave me a bunch of Lortab afterwards and I just save em' for when I gotta fly coach.:D
