i work at a university, and we collect lots of electronics from labs, etc, that are not going to be repaired, or can’t be. we send them to electronics recycling to keep them out of landfills.

i happen to have an office in the building where the collection takes place, and noticed a tek 547 oscope in one of the bins. so i grabbed it (marked “bad pt”) and pulled the tubes. it was property tagged 1967.

17 amperex bugle boy 6dj8
3 rca grey plate RCA 12ax7a
1 telefunken 12au7
1 amperex bugle boy 12au7
1 amperex bugle boy 12at7
1 ge 12at7
1 ge 12au6
3 amperex bugle boy 6cw5
6 ge 8425/6au6

plus some nice parts (tube sockets, capacitors, resistors, and the ceramic terminal strips, etc).

i’m a happy scavenger.

Hopefully the 6dj8s are good. They usually seem very worn in most of the old tek scopes I’ve come across.

that’s been my experience testing them. i have found 40 or so recently and have yet to test, but over the years haven’t found *any* that test well enough to put aside for use. somewhere i have 2 quart-sized ziplocs of them from earlier salvage.

fortunately the 12’s usually seem to be in good nick.and some of the 6au6s.

That is a sad event:(

I still use a 547 as my daily driver, and its sensitivity, bandwidth and stability are amazing for it's era. From a time when scopes were the masters and waveforms were scared...
Ignore the published specs; I believe they were written for a unit running all dead tubes at well below rated line voltage.
