Schiit Modi or JDS Atom DAC+?

I am looking to get a starter desktop DAC for my gaming setup. My two choices are the Schiit Modi or the JDS Atom DAC. I’ve heard good things about both, which is why I am completely spilt between the two. The JDS is cheaper by 20 dollars, but the Modi will interface well with my preexisting schiit products, and the specs generally seem slightly better. What do you guys think? Is there anything I should know about either of these products?

I don’t have any experience with those DACs as I have 2 Bifrosts. Since you mentioned gaming, Schiit and I got an email from Schiit today about their new gaming system. I’m not a gamer, but it sounds cool.

I had a Modi 3+ prior to upgrading to a Bifrost 2, now Bifrost 2/64. I don't have anything negative to report about it, it performed extremely well. one caveat is that if you're streaming from iOS devices, you'll need a USB to lightning dongle to make things copacetic. beyond that, it's great and American made, which is a definite plus in my book. Additionally, it has three inputs compared to the JDS Atom DAC, USB, TOSLINK and Coaxial, which gives you the ability to hook up another device. I had mine with my laptop/iPad to USB, my disc player to COAX and my Apple TV via an HDMI to TOSLINK converter. Since you already have other Schiit, it will look neat to keep it matchy-matchy.
 
I have a Modi 3+ and a Modi Multibit 2 and I'm pleased with them and the other Schiit products that I have. I think I'm up to about seven pieces of their equipment. Having said that I've read a lot of good things about JDS gear. So, you really can't go wrong either way.

I thought that was just for the power supply? Does that mean you can hook it up to your pc and it will provide power and audio connection to it?
 
You’ll want a separate power supply; iirc, I used a high current, 5v charging brick. When I just hooked it up to my laptop alone for power and signal, it was a bit noisy.

It says it comes with its own 5V power supply, but I will make sure to use my own USB C cable for computer connection.
