Schottky bridge rectifier assembly

I want to use a Schottky full wave bridge rectifier assembly for the heater supply in a DIY pre-amp I am building and found this piece on the internet - it uses 4 x 20A, 200V dual Schottky diodes. Problem is, it’s from the UK and pretty expensive by the time it makes the trip and conversion to Canadian bucks.

Anybody know of a like assembly or collection of parts readily available in the US or Canada?

Thanks, Billfort

Mind telling us why you want Schottky's? As far as building your own, you could always buy the diodes but the little PCB would be a pain to home fab.

Ever though about HEXFED's?

Just going on recommendations wards, a few friends who share my aversion for all things sand, suggested the Schottky's sound the most "tubelike", although hexfred's seem highly regarded as well. The piece you posted is another UK kit - would end up being around $70cdn. I guess I was hoping for something closer to home and cheaper but if thats what these things cost...

Have you used this hexfred kit?

Help is close at hand

Bill,

I've got good inventory of a fast recovery shottky switching power supply diode, axial leads made by Motorola. MRF something. I can mail you some. I have to go to the shop to check what they are but from mrmory are 100 PIV and 6 amps.

What is the filament load of your preamp tubes, or what tubes are you using and how many? Going 6 volt or 12 volt filament circuit?

Rob,

I'll be using a 76 as the amplifier stage and a 6J5 as a cathode follower for each channel, 6 volt filaments. I'll start a thread in a few days with the schematic and chassis layout. While you are digging through the parts bins, do you have any Amphenol power ambilical cord connection plugs/sockets (4 conductor)? I'll be separating the power supply and pre-amp sections in 2 chassis.

Thanks, Billfort

Bill,

Get some 6 pole Cinch-Jones connectors. Female on the PSU. male on the amp chassis. Male-female on the umbilical. Radio Shack may have these.
