SCMS + Consumer CD Recorders Question(s)

Eunomians

Diggin' 4 LP's Worldwide
If I was to purchase a 'consumer grade' stand alone CD Recorder that uses SCMS-protected music CD-R/RWs, can I import the songs into my computer's iTunes? Or does the SCMS prohibit copying onto my hardrive?

Is the audio quality on the stand alone CD Recorders the same as what I can do with my computer?

i use a marantz cd-r that will only record to music discs. i have no trouble ripping said discs to windows media. i cannot imagine itunes having any trouble ripping them either. as a matter of fact, as i type, i know that people to whom i've given some of those discs have in fact ripped them to itunes and then to ipod, w/o trouble.

Nice info, thanks. Looks like I'll be pickin' one up soon. Just not sure which one to purchase. I need to do a little research. I'm looking for simplicity and excellent quality results (who isn't!).

-Cheers

audio quality is very good. probably better than the computer. much slower though which probably helps the quality.

mine uses audio only cd's. forget which model it is but it's a philips. it has digital inputs and rca inputs on it so you can record off another cd player, dvd player or your old records and cassette tapes using the rca inputs.

the audio cd's pay royalties to the music artists that's why they cost more.

I was thinking about one of the Philips Cd Recorders. I would prefer to get one of those cool Tascam pro recorders, but I can't drop that kinda coin right now. The Philips seem to be prevalent - which is always a good sign.

I don't mind using the audio CD-Rs (since I can use a audio CD-RW to rip to my hardrive) even though the music industry is wholly corrupt. I'm not talking about the artists, just the companies. The companies don't need any more of my (or our) money.

I'd like to record vinyl and cassettes after processing them with analog equipement such as a DBX 3BX dynamic range expander, Burwen click/pop supressor, etc...

Cheers
