On Tuesday I was lucky enough to pick up a Concept 16.5 in working but needs a good cleaning shape for about what a non working unit would cost. That alone makes this a great week.

Thursday night my wife mentioned a friend of ours is hosting an estate sale and has posted pics. Not anticipating going, just NOT in the mood for crowds and cold, I spot something that I rarely see in Arkansas...Vintage JBL speakers. From the pic posted they appear to be in solid shape and L112.

I text the friend and ask how much she is asking for the speakers. Her response was "$100". I quickly responded " SOLD!!! I'll bring cash!" Even if they aren't working at that price they would make a reasonable project. The anticipation is killing me. So instead of going to work that morning I go in a little later and stand in line until they open. They were in excellent shape. A solid 9/10 with one cab showing some slight scuffs. absolutely no peeling! The drivers are all in perfect shape with nothing pushed in or scuffed. The woofers looked to have been reconed at some point with a speaker shop business card being taped to the back of one of the cabinets that contained a beeper number. Lol! Needless to say they sound awe-mazing!

I'll try to figure out how to post a few pics.
Did I mention I live in Arkansas where Klipsch are plentiful and JBL is rarely seen? This is true.

I am currently using the Yamaha as a preamp and utilizing a dynaco ST400.
Not sure if there will be a competitiion. Lucky for my my wife also enjoy vinyl and we need a nice living room set up.

Ouch. From the pictures they clearly look like they have been re-foamed with the foam glued to the front of the 128H woofer cones. This is usually done by shops that are in-experienced with JBL woofers because it's easier, but it sticks out like a sore thumb to anyone familiar with the speaker or 128H woofers in general and it can potentially affect how far the voice coil travels through the magnetic gap. It might be possible to remove the current foam and do it the correct way, but it can be difficult to get all of the glue off of the front of the cone and get it looking original again. It's a shame that more shops don't make it a point to do it the right way when working on such classic speakers because it's really not that much more difficult putting the foam on the back of the cone.

Still a good buy for the price, for sure.

I completely agree! If I have to redo them down the road or even completely replace them down the road i will. Currently there is nothing Audible regarding the VC.
I've also got a pair of L99 that I picked up about a year ago that I need to throw back on the bench and upgrade. Surprisingly enough the stiff surrounds came off pretty easy. I think it needs a complete over haul on the Cover and tweeter, but that will require more reading on AK.
 
Congrats on the L112’s. I just refoamed my pair of L112s. Listening to some Jack Johnson on them this morning in the man cave.

I lived in NLR back in the late 70’s.

Small world.
I lived in NLR for a decade before moving back to LR.
I have to say that I am really enjoying listening to familiar albums through these L112s.
