Scored a pair of Paradigm 3se minis today

Just got back from the SA where I picked up a pair of Paradigm 3se minis for $11.95!!! The surrounds look brand new. This is the first time I've heard the Paradigm and I am really impressed for what they are...and they are only running on a cheap a$$ boom box. They will go up to college with my daughter. I also picked up an Onkyo receiver that fizzled as soon as I plugged it in......oh well. They will only give me store credit but at least I'll get something.

Nice score !...had them years back and really liked them, a price of foam mattress pad in the port will help them if they're close to the wall, tames the bass "tubbyness" a bit.

Those mkII ? Thought mine had a foam ring around the perimeter of the woofers to hide the screws.
 
Fabulous score! I became a Paradigm convert after picking up a small herd of Atoms a bit ago. They sure put some good stuff into those little speakers.

A fine choice for a college student who appreciates quality sound. :thmbsp:
 
OK, my daughter is not getting these speakes!!! I brought them up top my office and swapped these with my Tannoy Proto-J speakers. These Paradigms kicked the crap out of the Tannoys. They don't go quite as low as the Tannoys but the bass is more coherent, tighter. The midrange is miles ahead of the Tannoys and the highs are more detailed and smoother. She is getting the Tannoys!!! What the heck, she is only a kid ah?
 
those are great speakers. my friend forced me to give him mine a few years ago. i would categorize 'em as good all around type of speakers.

I have them on my computer desk and for near field listening, they rock. They also filled the garage while they were out there. Like you said, a good all around speaker.
 
I still have my original 1989-vintage 3se Minis (bought 'em in college - drove them with an SA-5800 and then later with a Lazarus Cascade Basic + Robertson 4010) - they're currently in the garage / shop system.:music:

It was a great score DC. I've never been a small speaker guy and I am still very impressed with these. They might be overkill for computer speakers but this is where I spend my day. It helps to listen to good music when dealing with out of line students.
 
Them SE series paradigms are a pretty good model. Very smooth high end and the vocals are great.

I had a set of 5SE and when i sold them i advertized them with "youd swear there are angels singing behind the speakers." The guy who bought them agreed with me after a listening sesson. I sold them for around a hundred and he felt he got a good deal and i did too.

You might wanna try them on your main system with all your subs filling in the bottom end.

I have a sub under my desk so that fills in the bass rather well. I also think it is cool that they put their logo on the baffle board so they look good without the grills.
 
cool, i need to utilize a sub with my set up. Totally changed out the speakers after about a year and a half to 2 years of the same speakers in.
Really liking it. And i miss them 5 se's at times...im not surprised you like them enough to tannoys. Ive got a another pair of speakers that nearly equal my set of tannoys. Kind of a toss of the coin thing.
