Scored a Sansui G-9000 today...

Holy crap, I've never seen a vintage receiver of this size in my lifetime as this is my first "BIG one." I paid a ridiculously small amount of money for it as well, especially considering the condition it's in.

My question here is: is there really a point in holding onto this thing? Sure, it's impressive and powerful, but I will NEVER use 160wpc, and likely won't appreciate it as much as someone else might. With that said, I've yet to hook it up to any serious speakers. Should I? Will I fall in love with it for some reason?

Yes, That power will come into play once you get set up with some good speakers. Headroom is your friend, That is, Reserve power. It's a keeper, If all is well. Also, One of the the best looking vintage receivers made, IMO

By all means, yes! Hold on to it for a while. Hook it up to different speakers, get a feel for it. Enjoy it for a good long while before making any possible regrettable decisions. Nice receiver!

You have a good problem to have. The G-9000 is on my top five Monster Receiver list and I imagine many others think so as well. Monster Receiver ownership is not for everyone and it sounds like you are on the fence. If you are going keep and care for one, the G-9000 is a worthy candidate. If you do not think you can take care of it, it is OK to sell it to someone who will give it a proper home.

the high end tuner, phono amp are good reasons to keep it regardless if you need all that power or not.

God yes. Power is your friend, even if you never use it.

I have an Accuphase P300 powering my Eminence Delta subs in my open baffle setup. I probably use about 5W per channel to run these super-efficient drivers from the amp, which means Im not using the other 145 watts or so. But its good to know that its there, that the amp has it, and that it will easily power less-efficient speakers if I get some later on.

It's almost a free lunch.

As posted above, the bonus is that you get everything in one package, lots of power (which means you can pretty much drive any speaker that follows you home, a common problem here), and every part of it is high quality. Oh, and they look great! If I could only have one stereo system in my home, I'll keep my SX-1250 for those reasons.

The only real down-side is that it will consume a lot of power just idling, and puts off a lot of heat.
