I snagged one of these integrated amps on E-Bay for a whopping $75.00 fully stocked with tubes sold as working..... :scratch2: nevertheless it seemed like a good deal although the seller had a feedback of 96% so we'll see how truthful he is on the working department. Anyone here have any experience with this amp? I've never owned any Scott gear although I've heard good things about them. Suppose all coupling caps, bias resistors should at the very least be replaced?

I've rebuilt and used something like 50 299C's. They are one of Scott's best integrated amplifiers and my favorite 7591 based amp from Scott. The problem with helping you with the rebuild in specific terms is they made no less then 7 versions of the amp but only one schematic. When you get the amp pull the bottom cover and get me some pictures of it and if your willing to dive in I'll help you through the process as time allows.
By the way I don't know what condition this amp is in cosmetically but for $75 you might get arested for theft!

Yes, replacing the coupling caps is a great idea, also I believe they used a selenium rectifier in the grid supply that should be replaced with a silicon bridge. It looks like a bridge made of 4 discrete diodes on the schematic, but I don't think it is. You can also replace the filter caps for the output stage supply and add extra caps in parallel anywhere you can strap them in under the chassis. I had a Scott 340B which has pretty much the same amp in it. I got it up to 200uF. The original circuit has 40uF I think. I also replaced the diodes in the main supply with 1000PRV / 1A diodes. 1N4007 will work just fine.

The schematic in the link from dr*audio's message shows a 299C with 6U8 drivers. I could've sworn that a schematic in my files shows the 7199's, so I pulled it out to take a look... Sure enough, my copy does have the 7199 drivers, but is otherwise almost identical. Has the same date, but shows "SUB O" at the bottom right and the values for C24 and C124 are "82" instead of "100". There may be other differences, but that's what I see with a quick glance. Anyway, I guess HH Scott did actually publish more than one schematic? :scratch2:
 
Hey you have something many of us Scott freaks have looked for a long time. Could I get you to email me a scan of that? I've rebuilt many of them with 7199's installed but have never ran across a schematic for the 299C with 7199's. I have a few for LK48's and 222C's schematics with 7199's but not a 299C.

I was aware that the later of the 299C amplfiers used the 233 circuitry and smaller output iron. Not sure what the iron the one I purchased, but for $75.00 I'm not complaining :banana: Once I get it I'll post some pics ect. and dive into it as a winter project.
 
I've got a close mono version - the 99D.

I get a bit of 120 Hz at high volume settings but it has the original tubes. That suggests power supply caps, no?

Case held up well too. It's the garage sound system.
 
120 Hz is a symptom of something that is full wave rectified. If it were induced hum it would be more likely 60Hz. So it is probably a bad filter cap.
