Scott Console Info?

EH Scott, the man, was born in New Zealand, but his company was based in Chicago.

Thanks for the comments. I appreciate the info, particularly the online manual. From the manual, I found out: 1) what the Stereo Balance is for (btw, that switch on my unit does not produce pulse for sound or lamp, as indicated by the manual. Rather it just hum quietly; nevertheless the purpose is served). 2) the interesting "Hi-Lo" or "Cross-over" switch that splits the sound so that the left channel is high frequency sound, and right channel low frequency (bass sound only).

I also have another question regarding the Scott Custom amp or SC variant SR-433. When you guys commented that this tube amp is good, what kind of speakers are you using? It is my understanding that these old tube amps (wpc 12-18?) were meant to be use with "high efficent" speakers, and that when SR-433 is used with modern speakers, they basically don't sound that great. What is the story on that? Thanks in advance for your input.

I own the identical rig execpt for the fact that my amp is a "333" (no magnetic phono stage)
I have not done anything with the tuner yet, but just overhauled the amp with Tom Bavis' help. Thank you much Mr. Bavis.

As for your question; you're soon going to discover that that little amp is more than capable with any speaker you throw at it. It also possesses the ability to make even crappy sacrificial test speakers sound like real speakers (in my case a pair of Sony minis that I literally paid 2 cents for at a thrift) They are 8 Ohm and I use them for bench testing unknown quantities.

My set was also badged "E. H. Scott", same aluminum face plates. I would love to find a S-C face plate for the amp.

I agree, I don't think S-C was thinking about what you might be hooking up to that amp 50 years in the future..........

Why do you think they give you 3 sets of taps to choose from?

What's to decide? Try it.

It's not as if it were a permanent decision.

It's the same amp by the way.

The "433" simply has a PHONO stage and some other nice features that make it more flexible.
