Scott faceplate cosmetics

Greetings. Many of us have experienced the scuffed and bent faceplates on our beloved 299,299A,B,C,D and all the rest. The big corner scratches sand out nicely but does anyone have a champagne color restoration trick? I realize there are different shades as I have a 299C, an LK72B and a 222 but there has to be a way. I tried layering with my wife’s expensive “art” markers (what she don’t know…) and came close using 5 shades of yellow and very light orange but it is very far from perfect. It’s just not looking right and I don’t really want to invest in an amp for parts unless it’s totally beyond repair as I have plenty of power and output Scott transformers.

That "finish" is an anodized aluminum finish. It's not any kind of paint, unfortunately and it will fade with sunlight as well. It is similar to chrome plating, done by electrolysis.

From the internet: Anodizing is an electrochemical process that converts the metal surface into a decorative, durable, corrosion-resistant, anodic oxide finish.

It will usually clean up with household cleaners but the lettering the was used is fragile and will wash of easily.

Thanks and yeah, I know anodizing all too well. I used to anodize sailboat masts for the Leeds company in my youth. AWFUL work. Anyhow, I’m just looking for an acceptable fix that doesn’t require a home anodizing kit that will ruin the lettering and leave me with a bucket full of toxic junk. One of my faceplates is silver where the anodizing has worn off.

@viridis

Maybe stop into the dedicated HH Scott thread and hopefully A) your concern has already been addressed or B) ask there as well and see what the other owners suggest, have done etc
