Sealed Vinyl Finds:Blessing Or Curse?

The other night,a local independent record store had a boatload of old sealed vinyl for sale at 1.99 a pop.Usually,if its sealed and never played,Ill give anything a shot, but at some things I really have to draw the line.
Phil Collins-Hello,I must be going
Whitney Houston-Bodyguard Soundtrack and self titled
Heart-Heart(1985)
Little River Band's greatest hits
Hit Action(a Canadian K-tel type album on Tee-Vee)

And I really had to hold my nose at some of those, even, considering how many FRICKEN times I heard some of the songs on these records. But even the lure of new vinyl wasnt enough to get me to buy the first Juice Newton, the Lionel Richie self titled or Dancing on the Ceiling.

Im already getting more out of the used copy of Kate Bush's Lionheart I picked up at the same time.I had never heard this record before. She may well be the definition of artistic integrity. She definetly has her radio tuned to a different station than anyone else.

If it's still sealed, usually there's a reason. See titles above.

Exception: I recently scored a sealed copy of James "Blood" Ulmer's Black Rock, which has been out of print basically since its first pressing. Five bucks!

Sealed vinyl is useless if you don't like the artist. I'll take a used LP of someone I want over a sealed one of someone I don't.
Kate Bush fan here. She's definitely an acquired taste but once you get hooked, you can never get enough. She's just released "Aerial", a double CD set; her first release in over 15 years. Dark, moody, but just as good as anything else she put out in the past.

I actually just love hearing vinyl in great shape sometimes.I was actually surprised by how good "I dont care anymore" sounds on vinyl.Im hearing things Ive never heard in this song.I can just skip over his version of "Cant Hurry Love". :thmbsp:

At a yard sale last fall I found sealed LPs of Steve Miller's Book of Dreams, and Fleetwood Mac's Rumours. I still haven't opened either one. I probably wont either, It's no use because I already have a target pressing CD of the Fleetwood Mac, and the DCC gold CD of the same Steve Miller. But I stil had to get those LPs, they were only a buck each.

A while back I found a sealed copy of Herb Alperts The Lonely Bull. Not that I wanted to listen to it, I just thought it would be cool to own a sealed copy of one of the most common thrift titles. :D I also came across a sealed Prince-1999, one of my favorite albums. I'll open it up on 2099.

thrift store

big coincident, i was at the thrift store today and seen a LP labeled " aretha" still shrink wraped. i didn't buy it but now you guys got me want'n to go back and get it.instead i pick up a pipe band LP and a milk crate (the ones LP fit in) both for $1. two week ago the wife pick a milk crate out of the neighbors garbage. i had to give her a pat on the head. haven't seen them milk crates around for years, now two in a couple of weeks!! yaba daba doo!! :thmbsp:

Play 'em if ya got 'em

If I happen to find any interesting sealed albums for a buck or two, I always buy them. And then do you know what I do when I get home? Well, first I rip the plastic right off that album! Then I remove the record from its jacket and put it on my turntable. Some of you readers are probably way ahead of me on the next step. I actually play the album!!! That's right! I play it! You know why? Because that's what it was made for!! :music: :music:

Life is short, play your vinyl!

I already have copies of any sealed albums I have found. However, when I order sealed vinyl of things I have on cd or from my younger days... you bet, off the plastic comes... gently of course, and then they get a spin...... nothing like it. :music:  :D

Alright, alright, I'll play the sealed LP's I found on the curb a couple months ago. It's just fun to have a sealed ELO "A New World Record". Maybe it will be the first disc on the Yamaha TT from Merrylander this weekend.

Sealed

If its sealed and reasonable I pick it up, I figure when im old (already grey) and my ears are totally shot, I ll ebay off a lot of the stuff I have collected over the years.

I find an appealing sealed LP now and then. When you stop to consider it, there is actually more risk involved. With used, you take a look and WYSIWYG. But that sealed might just be defective. And would you want to bring it back to a thrift?

But my finds have been fine and its nice to find a slice of the past.
