Searching for classic looking console w/storage

Hi Everyone! I'm currently the new owner of a Sony STR-7065 stereo with a Dual 1229 turntable and KLH speakers. I've been trying to find a classicy looking, not too large cabinet/console to place my equipment in and store my vinyl because currently, its on my floor! I thought the Crosley Everet Console was a good fit but in addition to arriving quite a bit beat up, the turntable shelf was a bit too high when closing the lid and there's no way to drop the shelf down so that's out. I also saw the Urban Outfitters Draper Media Console (which I love the look of!), but that also seems to be too small for my equipment. The turntable's dimensions are 15.75" w X14.5"d X 8" h (without the dust cover 7.5" h) and the stereo is 18.5" w X 12.75" d x 6.25" h. I don't mind placing the turntable on the top of the shelving unit, but does anyone have any good suggestions for a console unit with some space and some soul?

That's a nice idea. The Urban Outfitters unit certainly has all the necessary mid-century look, too. The challenge is finding anything today that would fit without being in a major metropolitan area where an original Barzilay would pop up on Craigslist. I see them multiple times per year on the SF Bay CL, for instance. Besides the turntable placement, be cognizant of the heat generated by the Sony and how it is placed in the cabinet. It needs to breathe.

For us who were there when your gear was new, the classic college-student installation consisted of cinder blocks and 1 x 12 boards. Add a lava lamp and some shag carpet (extra points for green or yellow in color) and you're about as mid-70s as you can get! If you're really up to the task, suspend the turntable on a macrame swing suspended from the ceiling. I'm sure there are some of my contemporaries here nodding their heads up and down 'cause they remember all this, too.

OH YEAH

Cinder blocks, 2x12, macrame.

Don't forget milk crates to store the LPs! Hint, you need the long crates, not the square ones.

Nice classy furniture that fits well will vintage gear is tough to find. I have a few pieces rounded up over years of yard sales/thrift stores.

Beside those places, you may want to check antique stores.

If you are in a major city, you may have a chance in Craigslist as long as the Mid Century Modern fad hasn't run prices crazy.

Wow thanks for the awesome suggestions! - And for the heads up on the heat of the stereo unit. I didn't really think that one through enough. I am in the NYC area, but CL kind of freaks me out. I wish the Draper console were a bit bigger to fit my system. I'm going to keep hunting to see if I can find something and once I do, I'll be sure to post a photo of my setup Esp if I go with the cinder blocks! (Already have a lava lamp that'd fit perfectly!) Last resort may be just to try and construct something simple myself. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks again all!!!
