I'm Pete and I live up in Canada. Family man, working from home for the last 3 years. I've only recently been bitten by the bug. I used to casually listen to music with headphones connected to my PC. And it was fine but I realized that I wasn't listening to music much anymore...because of those headphones! I always had a huge music collection in digital format but had been neglecting it for too long.

So I bought some Edifier bookshelf active speakers and built a little rpi4 streamer and that was fine... for just a little while. It really didn't give me much pleasure to listen to my music.

Went to an Audio Show this year. Listened to some very expensive systems that I cannot afford. But it did give me the desire to find myself a good sounding system for a reasonable price.

And so the search began on Marketplace. Daily check in, trying to figure out best quality/low price combo I could get my hands one. I also looked at recent Class D amps. Ended up with an old Yamaha RX596 for 60$ and a pair of JMLAB Chorus 715. Based on reviews, I thought I'd be blown away. Not so much. Too bright for my developing taste. Got myself a cheap sub from a 5.1 system. The amp doesn't have a sub-out but I figured out how to make that work. Now my eyes are open.... But I need more. Better!

Currently have a pair of Athena AS-F1. Combined with the Yamaha was lacking punch. So I upgraded a bit to a Rotel-RA12 and found what I was lacking.... but then made a mistake I'm hoping to correct with your help.

Wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. Hoping to find some Rotel owners here and technical help to figure out what I did wrong.
