See a few JBL L7's parted out lately?

:scratch2:I see a few JBL, L7's parted out on Ebay, just curious as to why? Are people trading those off for something better or smaller, or are they getting to old and need repair? I bought my L7's when they were new, and I would hate to part with them.

Being an "ebayer" my first guess is the usual, more money parted out. It's something I'm not fond of, regardless of the item. If it's beat up, not salvageable, etc. fine, but none of the drivers listed were bad and nothing about bad/damaged cabinets. Crying shame really.

I would say its due to them not wanting to ship them so most just part them out instead. They are rather large and heavy.

The 12-inch LE120H-1 woofers generally bring more than the entire system. There's always a market for the 035TiA since so many people blow them up in other systems or break the wires messing with them. The 708Gs are going to save the L3s that seem to trash their surrounds. The main cause is that the L7 is a bitch to ship and that impacts its value. If they weren't so big and heavy they'd be selling for $600 or more and no one would need to part them out.

It's a fine system that I would put up against nearly anything selling for up to $3000. I have two pair—because one was so much fun!

on the plus side, people with damaged speakers can use the parts to make them sing again. If anything happened to my L5s I would certainly check eBay for replacement parts.

I bought all the drivers from one seller three years ago just to be safe in having enought spare parts to keep them going. I asked if the enclosure now being much lighter and under 70 pds could be shipped USPS, but he said that the enclosure was already trashed.
A real shame, for such a fine speaker.
There is one on Ebay now, selling complete and the price and shipping was not to bad, it has to be shipped Fedex or UPS, and I just don't know what the brookers is going to charge, I got stung once before with the brooker fees being out of this world. If it was not for that, I would buy them.

I hate to even hear the words JBL L7. A while back someone on my local CL was selling a pair. They wanted more than I had, so after seeing them for a while, I offered them $300 for the pair.

I figured they declined my offer as I never heard back...

Later I discovered that I was logged onto an email account I rarely use when I sent the question. The seller had responded right away to take the $300...but it was several weeks later before I realized it, and they were now gone.

I'll part out a set with totally trashed cabs, or I recently picked up an orphan with a cab that is pretty dinged up. Otherwise, I try to clean them up and sell them on CL... saving a set vs. parting them out - seeing as how parting them out reduces the number of vintage speaker pairs by one, never to return.

People don't want to pay the high shipping costs and the drivers often do bring more than the whole speaker.

We're talking probably well over $100 to ship speakers these days; that's what it would cost to send a set of Advents to the West Coast from here. I imagine L7s would run more.

I parted out a set of L7's once, but only because the cabs were wrecked with split seems due to water damage. And yes I made more than I would have selling them intact.
