See through dust caps

NYListens

CBGB & OMFUG
I have a pair of Bose 601s I am in the process of refoaming. The dust caps are heavy see-through cloth and I was wondering if putting a regular cloth dust cap would change the speaker's dynamics. Why they would put these on 602s when the top woofer faces up, makes no sense to me.

The 'see thru' you observe in your original dust cap is their on purpose to help vent the voice coil and keep it from overheating.
Whatever you get for new DC, needs to have approximately the same 'breathability'.

Thanks, I was afraid of this. Any idea where you can get them?

If you can't find the proper "screen fabric" duscaps elsewhere, PM me... I deal with this all the time.

Gordon.

Although that might have some effect, the main reason some dustcaps are transparent or "see-through" is usually acoustics related. Hard dustcaps have a signature and transparent ones do not. It comes down to the decision of the designer and whether or not the driver provides the desired result with or without it.
