I'm starting the restoration of my Thorens TD 124 MKII and could use some advice on a few early steps in no particular order. The chassis plate spray is my first project, but there are some fixed elements on the chassis that I'm curious about. I've attached some pictures and comments for reference.
Replacing Bronze Bushings: How do you use the plastic punch for this? What happens underneath the plate? Are there bushings there too?
Sandblasting and Respraying: Must the fitted pieces be covered because they can't be removed? What are these fixed parts, and can they be removed from the chassis plate?
Chassis Plate: When changing the bushings, how much force is needed with the punch? Can the chassis plate crack or be damaged?
Greasing and Bearings: When reassembling the speed selector, does it need grease? Should the two bearings be upgraded? Does the shaft need oil inside?
Finishing Options: For the chassis plate, would sandblasting and powder coating yield a better result, or is an automotive finishing look (spraying and baking) preferable?
Identification and Oiling: What is this part (shown in the pictures)? Does it need to be oiled during reassembly?
