Greetings! Sometimes I really wonder about some of the things I bring home and this is a perfect example. I got a hold of a General Electric C751g receiver. It caught my eye because of the all-wood casing, and it had some weight to it.
I'm not familiar in the least with G.E. gear of any sort, and upon further investigation it just kept getting more interesting. I'm thinking this is an early to mid-60's unit. Once I removed the wood housing, I found all kinds of things I'd never come across before. First off, I'd never seen an actual phono preamp encased in it's own housing inside of a receiver. Also, someone was generous with the duct tape for harnessing the wires. Not sure if that was from the factory or not. (If so...?!)
A pretty basic, minimalist looking board, some really small aluminum heat sinks, just a lot of really primitive looking works. (at least in my brief experience with poking around a receiver)
I wasn't able to hook up any speakers to it as it has RCA speaker jacks. But I did try out some headphones and I found an extremely sensitive tuner. With no antennae I was able to pick up all kinds of stations from my basement. Half of which I've never even heard! And it sounded really good as well.
The rear panel has a left to right switch with the options of "magnetic" or "ceramic", and it also had jacks for either option (???).
Does anybody have the slightest clue as to what I've got here? 45 minutes of googling turned up exactly NOTHING.
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
