Seeking speaker wisdom

Hello all, I realize this topic has been discussed before but I haven't quite found the exact answer I've been looking for. For the safety of myself and my gear, I turn to the wisdom of the internet.

My sound system consists of a Yamaha RX-V381 driving two Klipsch RF-62II towers and center/surround/sub.
On the analog end, I use a Pioneer SX-990 as my turntable amp, driving (on the A channel) two Kenwood floor standing speakers which I have yet to identify. The sub is also connected to the center out on the pioneer.

With that out of the way, the Klipsch towers have 2 pairs of speaker jacks on the back, and I'm wondering if it would be stupid to wire the B channel of the Pioneer to one of these pairs, and the Yamaha to the other pair. I enjoy experimenting with speaker configurations and these sorts of things, in some quest for ultimate sound quality :)

Has anyone had any experience with this?

Hm, so you're saying that those two sets of poles are connected somehow? That's the only way I can imagine something going wrong, but the little plate of metal that connects the two pairs can be removed to isolate them.
 
If you try this, be sure to remove the jumpers connecting the two pairs of jacks - if you leave them, you'll be connecting the output of one amp to the output of the other, and damage will result. If you remove the jumpers, this might be OK IF you verify that doing so separates the high and low frequency drivers (and thus there is no electrical connection between the pairs of jacks). It that's true, you might not damage anything, but you'll be driving the high end with one amp and the low end with another (bi-amping). Unless you can bypass the internal crossovers and use an external crossover, there's some chance you might improve things, but IMO not much.
 
If your intention is to leave both amps hooked up to one set of speakers so you can change which amplifier you are using without moving any wires, this would result in damaging your gear. If this is your goal, there are switches out there that let you choose between different power sources and different speakers.
 
This IS NOT recommended.

The small metal strips on the speaker terminals are there to allow full range operation of the speakers. One set of terminals go to the woofers, the other set goes to the midrange & tweeters.

Removing the metal strips would allow Bi-Amplifying the speakers. This would allow you to run two separate amplifiers to the speakers. This usually requires the use of an external crossover network between the source/preamp and amplifiers to ensure that only bass frequencies go to the woofers and no bass goes to the midrange and tweeter.

Not to be disrespectful but it does not seem your equipment or knowledge of system setup are to the point that bi amplifying the speakers would be a positive experience.
 
Instead, get another set of speakers for the other amp. Don’t do what you are suggesting. To much of a potential for a problem.

This absolutely will work but it would be a PITA to operate. You would have to adjust both volume controls to balance out the sound. One amp will be driving the woofers and the other will be driving the Mids and tweets. With that said I still would not to do it. You won't see much improvement.
If your Yamaha had pre outs this would be more feasible. You could run those to the Pioneer's Pre in. That way you would have one preamp controlling everything. Your speakers have internal crossovers and that is why those metal jumpers are there. For Bi amping.

On second thought, that would eliminate your turntable. If your Yamaha was the preamp. But it does not have pre out so it's not an issue. Probably best just to mothball this idea

After further investigation this will not work at all. You would have no way to feed the preamp level to the Pioneer. I was thinking of the Pioneer SX 980. As everyone has said don't do it.

OK.. get where you going.. but again, what is the "end goal"? Another word.., you are looking to improve.. or degrade "something".. to what end? If you state this I believe you will get better guidance specific to your end goal :bigok:
