Selling Question - Canada Bidder

Good thread -I'm selling a Pioneer 1250 through Barter Town and a couple of buyers in Canada want it. I needed to know this info ---Going to talk to my UPS guy tomorrow and if it is not a big issue I'll ship to Canada. It is ashamed that Canada has to be treated like an overseas country.

Me too. I was commenting on the (claimed) higher PP fees to seller for out of US sale. But looking at the PP link, it doesn't seem as bad as suggested above.

I've found most "US only" vendors have been cool with my bidding. I've just found it easier for everyone to give the vendor a heads up.

You will find out its one customs form and ship it, there is nothing to it. Ship it usps, ups will annialate the buyer in customs fees , a lot of the time stuff shipped usps just sails on in duty free.

You would be totally trustworthy. However, what happens when the ship to address does not sync with paypal confirmed address?
 
I've sold and shipped hundreds of orders to Canadian customers without one single hiccup. I've come to the conclusion that Canadians are just good folks.

Eric, it sounds as if you'll be shipping to his freight forwarder or simply a domestic address in the US at a friends. PayPal fees on international sales transactions are slightly higher but we're talking pennies of difference. I wouldn't worry one bit.

There you go, try reading the OP.

Caddy set in his profile to stop out of country biding, when he listed he made shipping to only the lower 48 states, he then clearly wrote it down in his listing for all to see his terms.

The bidder on the other hand might be manipulating the system and lying. Also eather they can't read or they are disregarding the wishes of the sellers terms posted in the listing.

If thats not a red flag I don't know what to tell you.

Oh and why would it be ok to bend the terms of sale to ship out of the country to Canada but not Russia?

Also a buyer is not to be charged more shipping than what's posted in the listing.

Hey D,

Not to worry? LOL, remember Eric just had a problem in shipping mac gear and the face plate broke. Im sure Eirc would love to have his item shipped with minimal truck transfers and risk.
 
Maybe the buyer has a U.S. Address to ship to, too many conclusions being made before the buyer has been contacted. I have a po box in ogdensburg and a friend in nj I can ship to whenever I want. I can't stand it when my bids are blocked because of this restriction. Sounds like the bidder has a US eBay account. If that's the case I'm willing to bet he has a us address to ship to. 4seatpilot has one - I've had to have him bid for me in order to get around it.

Whenever I buy something online in the US, I have it shipped to a buddy's house just over the border. Gives me a chance to go down, pick up the item, maybe have a visit with my friend, buy cheap gas, and broker it over the border myself.

Never had a problem with a seller not happy with my paypal or visa card.
 
I just heard back from the bidder - he says it's not a problem because he is in Colorado.

So I guess we're okay...

Cross border shipping was always a bit more than typical lower 48 rates but some years ago the rules changed and Canadians pay much higher overseas rates. I can order items from Europe and Britain cheaper than I can the same from the USA. Postal costs for domestic shipping are very high here now too. Recently "isolated" areas like where I live can have shipping costs up to tenfold what they were just a year or so ago. Ouch!! :scratch2::scratch2:

ok first off, let me tell you one thing I was told directly by ebay, putting your terms under the description means they don't count because the item description area is for the item description. yeah I couldn't believe that either, you can block bidders from all other countries all you want, some will still be able to get through. you can cancell and block any bidder yourself.

One more fun note, Ebay attaches an automatic immediate payment on all your buy it now items the first time you list it and you can't get out of it. you can take it off on a relist. so if you list 4 lp's they have to pay $4.00 four times and then you have to do a paypal refund for the overpayment. This was done because sitewide enough people will pay the overcharge and not care, some sellers wont refund and ebay makes more money that way. Ebay expects all sellers to ship FAST N FREE. Because they dont realize that forgetting what made them the most searched site on the internet ( and the only site to surpass porn searches) wasnt when they were trying to be amazon. sellers who sell on consignment cant pay the shipping charges because on certain items $ 4.00 is all you make, the most ebay will ever be is a SECOND rate amazon, so the closer they get to that the closer ebay gets to disappearing al together, because Amazon isn't going to be defeated by ebay. Hopefully before its too late Ebay will realize this.
 
As a Canadian bidder, I never expect to pay the US flat rate charges, as I'm not in the US. Duty is mine, but there usually isn't any on electronics or parts. If the ad doesn't state there is shipping to Canada, I email the seller and ask; most sellers say yes, some say no. I don't find it a big deal to ship between Canada/USA, I'm guessing most eBay seller are the same -- a sale's a sale.
