Sennheiser HD 600 interconnect problem

Got a brand new pair of Sennheiser HD 600s today and immediately I noticed an issue with the right channel. It seems that the right channel will go out if the interconnect is pushed or tapped. If I unplug it and plug it back everything works fine.

Anyone else have this issue?

Should I return them for a new pair?

Maybe these have to be broken in.

I've owned these headphones since 1997. I've maybe gone through 3 or 4 cables. It's a design flaw in my opinion. You can order a new cable from Sennheiser or return the ones you bought.

I keep hearing about this problem. Mine were bought used, original cabling, at least two if not three years old. I've had them for several months or more now. Absolutely NO sign of this problem (should I be crossing my fingers or is everybody else that "destructive" and clumsy)?

Just emailed Sennheiser customer service, I'm sure they'll follow through with a replacement. I'll post an update for anyone interested.

The cord on my Sennheiser 580's went last week. One night they were perfect, the next the sound kept dropping out on the right channel, gently touching the cord just above the headphone jack would bring it back temporarily, but then it went completely.
Anyway, ordered a upgrade 600/650 cord from Custom Cans via Ebay on Saturday (it arrived today),and it's perfect.

Yes, I have had this problem before. It has to do with the connector inside the headphone. The little cable plugs go into the coils of a small gold spring. Sometimes this spring gets pushed out its holder. You need to crack open that right phone and reseat the small gold spring. The headphones just snap together with no glue. It's easy to take them apart and put them back together. Also ditch the factory cable and replace with a better cable. The 600s and 650s will really scale up in performance with a better cable. I own both a set of 600s and 650s and both have had their cables replaced with cables from CablePro. After replacing the stock cable with better cables I have no need to upgrade to HD800's, LCD-2's, HiFiMan's, etc.

Is it really worth the $150 upgrade? Seems like a lot of money.

I'd never pay 150 for a cable. but I would change a cable out if I felt it was poor quality. I'd rather make it myself anyway for less.

Successfully got my exchange 600s.
I think the original pair I got were used. In the original one, the cable wasn't coiled and the manuals weren't in plastic, the exchanged ones had coiled cables and bagged manuals.

No issues with cables on the exchanged cans.

They sound a little different though. Probably due to a 100% functioning cable.

I have a pair of HD-650 - bought around 8 years ago. Before them a pair of HD-420 with similar cable "contraption".

Supposedly, the design is good as it allows cables to be replaceable. However, the plugs combined with the non-coiled cable is a recipe for disaster. Just step on them and one of the plugs goes off. You can plug it back in but after a few times they become loose.

With my previous set I almost started developing a nervous tick - stroking my head to the left to have that damned plug make contact...

Enough ranting though - ever since using the 650s I can't really tolerate any inferior headphones - and they all sound pretty inferior.

A word of advice: exercise caution on listening levels. There's pretty much zero distortion and that makes you think music isn't loud. Until you experience a loud buzz after a couple of hours of listening.
