Sennheiser HD-700's

I just recently purchased a set of Sennheiser HD-700's. I auditioned the HD-600's, HD-650's, and the HD-800's, and decided between the HD-700's and the HD800's. I really loved both these headphones, and had a tough time deciding which to purchase. I seen all the You Tube video's, and read many reviews. At the end of the day, it was the 700's I took home. I really felt the difference between the two ( at least for me) was not that significant. I felt the HD-700's had a bit more extended bass, and the treble responce is not as bright, but just right, with no siblence, but with a open and wide soundstage, and I could not tell any difference with the mids. One of the biggest factors was the comfort the HD-700's had. The 800's are large headphones, and they would slip when I looked down...on the other hand, the HD-700's felt lightweight and super comfortable with a perfect clamping force. Also, the price played a factor also...Are there any HD-700 owners out there who would like to share their 2 cents....

Previous owner, really can't stand the sound of the HD-700s as I felt a really odd peak in the treble that sounded quite unnatural and sibilant to my ears, I think both the HD800 and even the 600s are superior sound wise, but I might be the odd man out with that opinion.

I felt the way the previous poster did about my first, pair, but my second pair...coupled with
a DecWare CSP2+ sounds very good. Very high comfort level, nice soundstage and
width. Tonally, not quite as warm as the HD650...which I will always own a pair of to pair
with my Bottlehead Crack.
Hibuck...

My two favorite headphones are my HD700s and my AKG K712s. I listen to my HDs through a Modi/Magni 2 uber pair and am very happy with the combo.

I have both the HD650 and HD700. I use these with a graham novo headphone amp. Listening to my DAP with the HD700 the treble sounds like it has a boost and is tiring to listen with. With the HD650 the smoother character better suits the DAP. However when listening to records the HD700 shines, there's no fatigue and can listen for hours. So the HD700 is picky with the source material and guess why some people thinks they are not easy to listen to.

I just got a pair of the Sennheiser HD 650s. I run them with a Burson HA 160 and have to say I really like the sound. I am a tube guy for the most part but I just like the sound of this setup. It is the best I have heard on headphones.

don't feel out of place. same here. thought the hd700 had a very weird artificial metallic top-end and was very bright and peaky. the hd650 sounded a lot smoother and much more balance sounding. the hd800 has it's slight peak but, is smoother, lack of resonance but, can easily be tame with slight eq or modding. the hd700 just took that peak to a whole new level in my opinion. sennheiser went super durpy on the people when they made the hd700.

I found using the foam that covers the transducers, as used on the HD650, on the HD700 calm the top-end a bit. I agree using a digital source they do not sound too comfortable but sounds great listening to records. Maybe they were designed for analogue source?
