My RX-1203 has a pooched power switch, the receiver still works but I have to use a power bar to turn it off and on. This seems to be a common problem with these guys. Does anyone have a Service Manual for this beast?

Both of my RX-1203's have bad power switches. I've seen others for sale with the same problem.

Yup, they seem very prone to failure. I wonder if it's the same with the 1603.

I sure hope not. The 1603 has slow start circuitry that appears to bring up the voltage slowly. I'm guessing this because the lights come on slowly as if being controlled by a variac.

My old RA1412 had a power switch fail after about 2 years from new ! However like any mechanical device life expectancy is a bit of a lottery ! I guess if you have one fail thats 30+ years old it's done well anyway.

Hey Sam - thanks for that manual have ordered a full version from Vintage manuals as i need the power amp setup procedures so i'll send the bits required to complete yours when it arrives ! More pics of the 1603 now on my post.

"Little" brother was deserving of the same!

Soundwise, the 1603 sounds better the the 1203 but from a volume standpoint, I am hard pressed to tell the difference in power. Although the 1203 and the 1603 look nearly identical, they are in fact completely different inside. The faceplates are different sizes and about the only thing in common are a few knobs. Still, the 1203 is impressive. Is there a heavier or more imposing 120 watter out there?
