I am doing some rebuilding of a couple of great old Technics amps and therefore reading through the parts lists in the service manuals. I notice in the parts lists that some items are printed in bold face, whereas others in the same list are not. When it comes to the caps list, I see that all of the electrolytics (polar and non-polar) are listed in boldface, whereas things like ceramic caps are not. From that, I surmised that possibly boldface items are those parts that tend to wear out and need replacement periodically. I looked for some statement that this was the intent, but did not see anything.
It was pointed out to me by Jeromach that this reasoning is flawed, because many of the nuts and bolts kind of parts listed were also in bold face, and generally they do not wear out. I am wondering if there is anyone out there that can shed some light on why the service manuals are printed that way.
Is this done in a similar way in other manuals, and are there any reasons other manufacturers would have done that, or is it an unexplained one-off in the Technics service manuals? Any info you have would be appreciated!
