No... It's probably the
BoyuuRange REISONG A50 MKIII 300B HiFi Intergrated Tube Amplifier. Stephe of
Skunkie Design Electronics on YouTube did a number of reviews of this amp and came to the same conclusion. The amp was a piece of junk.
On a side note I am an owner of two supposedly decent Chinese amplifiers, a
Willsenton R8 and a
Muzishare X7. Both are similar designed push-pull amps. The Willsenton uses KT88/EL34 and 6SL7/6SN7 tubes while the Muzishare uses KT88 and 12AX7/12AU7 tubes.
The Willsenton looks a lot sexier and is a tad larger than the Muzishare. According to Stephe the Willsenton has some design issues, primarily the choke and filter caps are too small and need to be upgraded. The bias board needs some resistors added to prevent tubes from red-plating if the bias pots go bad. She also upgraded the coupling caps to improve the sound and redesigned the grounding to make the amp quieter. It only has a center bias meter on the amp. Biasing the amp is easy but a bit awkward. She also noted that the resistors used in the amp seem to be of poor quality with the ceramic insulation chipping on some parts. .She did several
videos on how to upgrade the Willsenton to improve the quality and sound. A couple of niggling issues. The audio inputs are too "hot". When listening to music, the volume control never goes past 10 o'clock otherwise the sound gets too loud. I have 88dB efficient speakers, if you use even more efficient speakers, the volume control range becomes an issue as it jumps quite a bit in sound with the slightest adjustment. Also the remote is sluggish, any adjustments makes a big change in sound as it increments a lot. The Willsenton is highly rated on YouTube by several audio reviewers.
The Muzishare is a more functional design, a bit smaller and a couple pounds lighter (both are over 50 lbs). Stephe reported that the filter caps on this amp is also undersized (same as the Willsenton, using 450V and recommends using 550V caps). The unit has two VU meters that double as bias meters and are easier to adjust than the Willsenton. While the parts inside are similar to the Willsenton, they do not show any "defective" components. She also did several
videos on the X7 but she remarked that the mods she did was only to increase reliability as the sound was perfectly fine as the coupling caps were of much better quality and the grounding was better than the Willsenton's. The volume control is more linear and the remote allows finer adjustments. The 12AX7/12AU7 tubes used in the X7 allows a greater selection than the R8's 6SL7/6SN7, but the 12AU7/12AX7 tubes are notably more expensive if you are looking at vintage tubes. New 12AX7/12AU7 tubes are also a bit more expensive than new 6SN7/6SL7 tubes. Although the X7 is designed to only use KT88/6550 tubes, it can be used with EL34 type tubes if you reduce the bias to 30mA (from the KT88 40mA).
Muzishare does not condone the use of EL34 type tubes in the X7.
Use EL34s at your own risk. I am not responsible for any issues using EL34 tubes. All I can say is that I have been using EL34s on the Muzishare with no problems with the adjusted bias setting.
IMHO, the Muzishare has a slight advantage in sound over the Willsenton. It has a bit more detail and clarity but the differences are subtle. Imaging and depth is about the same. Even after all of Stephe's mods she said the Muzishare still sounded better and I tend to agree. She also complained about the Willsenton's remote and input sensitivity. I did some of Stephe's mods and kinda screwed up the R8. I have to take it in to have it checked out as all I get is a loud hum on the right channel. Stephe noted that at least both amps met their rated power output, unlike most other Chinese amps she has tested.
Regarding tubes, the selection of new 6SL7/6SN7 tubes are limited to Linlai, Psvane, Tung-Sol and Electro-Harmonix. The 12AX7/12AU7 selection offers JJ, Gold Lion, Tung-Sol, Mullard, Psvane, Telefunken, Svetlana, Electro-Harmonix and Apos Ray, a much broader selection. Also note that the bulk of the non-Chinese 12AX7/12AU7 tubes are all made by New Sensor in Russia. The New Sensor tubes look quite similar in construction but usually the more expensive tubes sound better, it's all about the symbiotic relationship between amp design and tube selection.
Generally, vintage tubes are more reliable and have longer life than new tubes but can be noisy because of age. People buy vintage tubes because they usually sound better than new tubes. Remember vintage tubes are 50-70 years old. There is no way to determine how much life is left on a used old tube and vintage unused (New old stock or NOS) is only as good as the seller's word. New power tubes generally last about 600-2,000 hours while vintage power tubes can last about 2,000-4,000 hours. Vintage pre-amp tubes can last up to 10,000 hours while newer ones about half that. But there is no way to tell how long a tube has been used so the remaining life span is unknown, the tube can last years or die tomorrow.
