Setting up Bryston 2B LP (non pro) amp with 0.5B pre-amp

Howdy:

I recently acquired these two but need some help hooking them up for plain old 2 channel stereo listening as the amp has a few toggles, etc., that I'm not familiar with, and the user manual I found online isn't much help to me:

http://www.bryston.com/PDF/Manuals/300004[2BLP].pdf

Any instructions or advice from someone familiar with these vintage units would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Glenn

Used to sell Bryston back them, own a 3B-ST and 11B now. Very straightforward:

For two channel put the toggle to Stereo and hook up the speakers normally.

The other switch is a ground lift, it disconnect the third prong from the power plug. Start with it switched to the left side which will connect the ground. If you have a buzz or hum you may have a ground loop which is noise being picked up by the third prong. Volume down, power everything down, flick the toggle to the other side which shows the ground disconnected, the problem should be gone.

Great pair, nice find. Tell us what you think.

Only major difference between the pro & std. 2b lp AFAIK is the pro units use balanced XLR inputs and have input level controls.
The std. versions just use SE unbalanced RCA interconnects and have no input level controls.

The only toggle switch on the amp that'll really matter is the stereo/mono switch and for your use it needs to be set to stereo.
The other toggle switch is a ground lift switch and generally it gets set to ground unless there is a hum.
If there is a hum then you can flip the switch and try it w/o the ground.
(always turn the unit off before flipping any of the switches as good SOP).

Also some of these had/have a remote power trigger toggle on the back, but that wont matter much unless using that feature.
But IIRC those came later,so also likely exclusive to the "pro" units as well.

Other than that the pre-out from the preamp gets connected to the amp's inputs.
That's about as straight forward as can be.

That is good gear, should sound real nice.

Thanks for the feedback - getting overly cautious in my old age!

I hooked up everything and getting speaker hum - ground lift either position doesn't seem to help.

Btw, both units are non-pro. Any suggestions to fix speaker hum?
