Sharp Optonica - anyone knows?

Does anybody know something about Sharp / Optonica? Although Sharp isn't known for High End stuff - at least not lately - I ran across an Optonica item that looks a lot like it it was made by MCS (or whatever that company was named), and it actually looks interesting. Can anybody tell me anything about Optonica?

Optonica was Sharp's attempt to crack the consumer market dominated by Pioneer, Sansui, Kenwood & Marantz. You might say it was Sharp's attempt to do what Panasonic did with their Technics' brand.
Very good quality stuff.
 
MCS actually didn't build anything. It was JCPenney sales "label" for the gear build by some other company. Rumors are it was NEC, or Technics or C. Itoch.
I had some MCS pieces-nice stuff.

It is nicely made gear tho, and unique looking. I've seen a few blackface as well.

I just got a mint 65wpc Optonica SA-4141 receiver for $15.
Very good build quality and sounds alot like a Yamaha unit....very clean.
A huge 22" x 16" x 8"....it barely fits on my audio shelf!!
Paired with a pair of Genesis 1+'s....it is one powerful sounding beast!!!

Big Optonica fan!

I've been an Optonica advocate for a long time now. I think the Ebony series of Optonica receivers and integrated amps are simply drop dead gorgeous. Can't be beat for looks and sound really nice as well.
 
I have a SA-5905 running through a pair of EPI 200c's that sounds sweet!
I'd love to find a big intigrated from them.
