Anyone have this deck?

Searching for information and not finding much. Looks like Technics made it for Sherwood. Looks like the love-child of a SL-1200 MK xx and a SL-1600 MK ll minus VTA and with the Start/Stop button on the opposite side of the 1600 MK ll , and the slide speed adjustment of the 1200 Mk xx. Doesn't say what type of drive is on the inside.

Unfortunately made after Sherwoods heyday but might be ok at the right price. It may be roughly modeled after a Technics but my this point Sherwood was years into their Korean manufacturing so it's super unlikely there's any actual relation.

If it doesn't say "direct drive" on it, it's almost certainly belt drive in my experience.

Thank you, it is a belt drive. I found one for sale that gave a description, after I started the thread. It also did say made in Korea on the label.

Their earlier (1982-6ish?) "silver face" Korean stuff was actually excellent, but they didn't start making TT's until later unfortunately. A DD model popped up here dirt cheap, I might have to check it out for myself.
 
Sherwood came out with TTs the year after I bought this receiver in June 1981. In 40 years of constant use and 15 moves, I’ve only replaced a power switch. Still my main preamp/amp. I auditioned many receivers before buying it. Still today it has a smooth, very refined sound that caused me to buy it over many others I listened to. All discrete except for the tuner digital display board and LED power meter. Just because it was assembled in S Korea doesn’t make it inferior.

Analog flywheel tuner. I’ve since bought 2 more for backups. Both work perfectly and fly under the radar.

I've had my 9600 about 20 years, it's the one receiver I will never, ever part with. Keeping an eye out for any matching components I can but they're extremely rare as I'm sure you know!

The post Chicago Sherwood timeline I've been able to put together (mostly from conjecture and hearsay) is 81-ish the silver face CP series, followed by the silver/black MOSFET CP stuff 84-86ish? And then after that the run of the mill black plastic stuff... again this is from bits and pieces I've found and some memories, which, if like mine, aren't always reliable.
 
I replaced the lights on a friend's Sherwood receiver. It was very nice other than having to de-solder the old lights and solder the new lights in. Don't remember the model, but it was an 80 or 90 watt unit, I believe.

It 's better to stay away from the Sherwood turntables . They have nothing to do with Technics !!! . These are turntables of low quality - with a light disk , a cheap motor , and a dubious tonearm .

I tend to agree with you, from memory. Those years seem correct. 1984 marked some drastic changes to the Sherwood line.
