Sherwood S-7200

Hi all, my neighbour is considering getting rid of some of his equipment. Amongst it is a Sherwood 7200. Just wondering if this is a decent unit and what it would be comparable with for build quality, performance and sound.

Looks like he also drilled a hole through the faceplate to fix the on/off switch on the loudness control. Not sure whether to bother with it…

Appreciate any info/advice based on your experiences.

what do you mean "getting rid of"?

the fun part of this hobby is finding gear that no one talks much about but is actually well built and sounds good

my advice, based on my experiences is to take chances and not be too concerned with what others think about a particular piece of audio gear.

9 times out of 10 you'll get opinions from those who only repeat what they have read on the internet.

That was a fine middle-of-the-range receiver in its day. It will likely need service, but certainly a fine-sounding and desirable vintage unit.

It is pristine other than the faceplate, the guy is a retired electrical engineer. The faceplate mod makes me uneasy, I would likely want to find a replacement for it. Not sure I can get those anymore though. And of course yes the restoration work needed to bring it back up to spec.

I think these have the power switch on the back of the volume (or speaker selector?).

I have one in the pile to fix and had to jumper the power switch. There might be 3d print options but I haven't opened up the switch.

I think mine has a blown channel (I don't have my log book in front of me).

If you decide to get it, post your opinions.

I can dig mine out of you have questions . Mine did come in the original box but didn't work.
