Sherwood S-7310 Volume Pot Woes

 :music:  Great news.

Yeah with only one end of the outer shield connected to ground it serves to well....shield the center conductor from noise pickup.

The volume control pot must have been the original problem.

If I can find it the trash bin, I'll take some pics of the original pot. Never seen anything like the damage done to the right channel wiper. It was if someone reached inside the housing with a small screwdriver and mangled it. The left channel was damaged as well, but not nearly as badly.

Couldn't get the old pot apart to take decent pics.

But I did take a couple of the shaft modification I did for the new pot.

Used a 6mm ID aluminum sleeve that I cut to length after reaming one end to fit the 1/4" diameter of the new pot's shaft. The cut-off knob end of the old shaft is 6mm diameter. I also had to shorten the shaft of the new pot to get the total length needed.

The sleeve is friction fit to the shaft of the new pot, using Teflon tape to make it nice and tight, but still removable just in case the pot ever needs to be pulled out. Used epoxy to join the old shaft to the knob end of the sleeve.

Quite a bit of work, but provides correct shaft length and allows use of the original knob.

Nicely done.

Hi! I know I'm digging up an old thread but it appears I have the same S-7310. A pic of my volume pot is attached.

The poor left channel probably never saw it coming - and as of right now, it's quieter than the right, and the same deal, there's no volume until 10 o'clock. And the left has minimal volume if you go to "off."

Two questions.

One: do you have the part number handy for the pot you went with for the replacement?

And two: do you have a service manual or schematic you'd be willing to share? Doing my best to save this one. It's in great shape.

Thanks!
