Todays new unit is a Sherwood S-8900A from 1974.
Rated at 60 watts and I believe it. It carries that load really well.
I don't think it sounds anything like my 1970 25 watt Sherwood S-7100A, which I find thick, bottom heavy and overworked. I don't believe the 25 watts.
This one is plenty fast with good even range from the bottom to the top.
It's no toy. It stays.
If you have a 7100 make the move.
That's my first glance.
Was $125 to the door

Sounds pretty nice! I do like my 7100 though-it makes a great little receiver for the bedroom. Bob
 
Yes it does, and the living room too. It's a fine unit. I'm sure someone will like mine plenty.
 
I have a 7100 and like it but never use it, but I had a line on a 7900 (very similar to yours) for $60 I believe that a guy sold out from under me. Still irks me when I think about it.
 
Yep, not enough deals like that to feel otherwise.
I've decided to go ahead and pay market now for what I want so that I have the use of it rather than wait for years to find out the price went up.
I had a good idea of what to expect based on others experience here.
The cost will be very little to move from one to the other.
I suggest you do the same on this particular one.
Doesn't always work this way.
Had a VERY different experience trying to go for more power from the Harman Kardon 930. It was just for the exercise.
I should have listened to others here.The 930 stayed.
 
If I'm right this is the last of the Made in USA units.
the service manual is findable but is linked with the S7900a. Take care-You have to make sure you are looking at the right page.
Full complimentary with Darlington outputs. Lots of tantalums thou.
And yes I like the one I have too.
 
yes, last of the American made units. they vary due to am/fm, fm only.

the phono stage is a single transistor.
