Sherwood S3000III Tuner question

Hello,

I have a Sherwood s3000 III. It does not have the fm multiplex board. I am thinking about getting a FM multiplex adapter to play around with for this tuner. The tuner does not have the usual mpx plug but has 6-7 pin plug instead. Can I use another type of FM multiplex adapter with this tuner or do I need to find an original Sherwood mpx board. I apologize in advance if my terminology is off.

I have one and it works well. You could probably also use another vintage tube decoder but they are not cheap. On the back of your 3000 you should find a jack labeled "MPX out". That should work with any decoder. If it's not on the back, you may be able to find it on the chassis. There are many different variations on the 3000 so if you post pictures we may be able to help you.

KiM3Ce, thanks for the reply. Here a few pictures of the back of the tuner. I do not see MPX out jack. There is the plate and plug where the factory provided MPX adapter would have been placed. If more pictures are required please let me know.

Doesn't seem there is a ready to use MPX output, you were supposed to add the optional mutliplexer to the tuner. I found this at the Tuner Info Center website:

Note, that is somewhat of a drawback on the III - there is no stock MPX out jack, so you were supposed to add the onboard stereo kit. Technical types can easily add the jack, though, to the III.

The S-3000 and S-3000 II both have MPX outputs jacks; the IV and V models have MPX built in. The III is the transition model.

Mine was done by a technician here in Phoenix named Mark Stover. I'll take a look when I get home. If you can trace the circuit it would not be too hard to find the place to tap the circuit. Unfortunately the 3000-III went through many iterations under the same model number, though 39cross is correct.

You should be able to wire it to one of the existing RCA's (the one sitting idle).

I appreciate the time you took to post some pictures of your tuner set up. The pictures are very helpful thanks you very much. Your set up looks really nice. I think this maybe the route I will go.
