Shinjitsu Audio Horn 2+2 Engine review

2nd image shows my DIY horn-on-a-base of MDF which has the cover parts at the rear..

I totally get where you are coming from re the manufacturer, but if the compensator works then you only need (buy or) use what you may already have in parts for them..

BTW, for my setup I needed to drop the value of the horn cap & drop the attenuating resistor to 1 ohm..

I just glanced at their site. Their information about "Tuning" is VERY limited. ((only interested out of academic curiosity))

1. One question, does the supplied "Crossover" from them roll off the top end of the woofer, or is it JUST the high pass for the horn??
Their supplied crossover seems overly simplistic from what I can visually see.

2. How many components are actually on it??

They are horribly lacking in details, and seem unwilling to supply any details for the fairly large amount they charge.

I'll x2 that most horn upgrades that are advertized as "drop-in," aren't. That includes quite a few highly regarded products that I own and endorse. The upshot is that by using them and getting them to integrate well into our setups, we have an opportunity to learn and expand our knowledge, at the cost of a few headaches along the way.
I think the "Take-away" from all of this, is NOTHING excuses not doing actual speaker measurements. Everything else is a crap shoot and wishful thinking.

Back when I was a teen, I used to experiment in those ways with random drivers, horns, and caps and resistors, not knowing for sure what I was getting for actual real sound.
Today, REW and Mics and comps are super cheap and there is NO excuse for bad frequency response, other than lack of caring or simply maximizing profits.

The woofer also has a crossover on it. Coil and a cap IIRC. Shinjitsu's stuff is well made, but he was zero help to me when the 2+2 came and it rolled the woofer off at 2.5-3k instead of 1.8k Hz. Had to figure that out myself. I don't plan to be buying any more stuff from him.
