Shipping to Canada ???

Grumpy Old Hermit
I just saw this on the official eBay messages...

"An ongoing labor dispute between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers has escalated to a full lockout. Canada Post has announced that, effective today, mail will not be accepted or delivered across Canada until further notice."

Is this real? A prank? I just mailed 4 packages to Canada this week after trying very hard to avoid it for the last few years.

Yes it's true. However they will likely be legislated back to work next week. I would not worry about it much. Delayed maybe, but not lost.

More here.

I work at a place that usually ships thousands of parcels by Canada Post every week. You think you've got concerns?

Yah this is nearly a yearly thing, and usually is over with in a week or so.

it's a pain when you are waiting for something in the mail thou

Actually the last Canada Post strike was in 1997, hardly "nearly a yearly thing." But yes, it is a pain.

Let's get technical :P
But it seems like they do have some kind of issue every year or two, usually not to a full blown strike (ie stop of mail flow) thou. But when you are waiting something important in the mail(to which my wife and I are waiting for), this isn't something one likes to the least bit.

Didn't mean to be hard on you.

I've got stuff in the mail too, so it does affect me too. At work it's a major PITA all the time because every second person we talk to is in a tizzy over it. We are using Purolator as a work around but it costs us about 3 times as much but we can't recoup it.

I returned an amp to be exchanged just prior to the lockout. Now we're waiting for this to be resolved before I get the replacement. Not very happy...

Uh, there are other options. DHL, Purolator, FedEx, UPS, Loomis, they all do ground shipping in addition to overnight delivery. Canada Post is usually a fair bit cheaper, but if I was waiting for an amp I'd probably opt to pay the additional $20 for courier ground service.

I'm aware of shipping options. Return was sent prior to the lockout. The issue is the amp company is awaiting my return before they send the replacement...

I'm afraid it is no prank or joke. I learned of the strike a couple of days ago via Youtube. Didn't see much about it in the news at the time.

lol, while I don't like how the federal government is handling this issue, I need my mail!

I feel bad for my colleagues to the north. My plight awaiting an amp exchange, while a legitimate concern, is diminished by the everyday need for mail exchange. So much hinges on these transactions.

Well, with the new legislation the government is trying to pass, it might be over by the end of this week.

Vendor has agreed to send my replacement amp via another carrier without receiving the defective unit first.

That's one of the nice things about dealing with small business. They don't have a "Book of No".
