currently have a Yamaha C-4 and a M-4... fully recapped.
speakers are Yamaha NS-1000m

I know these are great speakers... and well respected.. and i know that the M-4 and C-4 are respected too. but i'm wondering if i am missing out on anything..
was thinking about trying to find a good deal on a Yamaha A-S500
or similar series amplifier.. A-S700.. ect..

or perhaps i should take a listen to them on a tube amplifier...

i have never heard a tube amplifier before.

You are in a wonderful position with great gear. I wouldn't sell a thing before you have tried a few things in your home. I'd recommend trying a tube amp or preamp first by all means. There are some who absolutely swear by their sound quality and wouldn't have anything else. I've tried a tube preamp with a solid state amp for a short while and didn't care for the sound. I've come to the conclusion I'm a solid state guy.
The difference, at least to my ears with my speakers, is solid state presents more detail with better bass response and control versus what some might describe a warm, lush tube sound. There will be a lot of people who disagree with me, but I know what I like after 30 years...lets hope so:music:
