Should I buy this Marantz system?

Hey all!

Thinking about picking up a marantz stereo system from someone for $700. Included is the marantz 6300 turntable, the 5220 cassette player with wood case, and the 2275 receiver also with wood. Everything is in good cosmetic and working condition. Only issue is a couple bulb out in the 2275. What do you guys think? Too much? Good bargain?

Any feedback is appreciated.

Bargin? Eh, not in my part of the world. But it is good price, it's fair. Would be worth more after maintenance and recap.
As is, no recent maintenance, fair price.
Speakers?

Paying less is better, but I think $700 is a decent deal. But it really depends on the condition.

btw... I've have/had all three and they're my favorite Marantzs in their respective categories.

high end of the scale. See if you can get a couple hundred knocked off.

The receiver is the gem .....

I have a 6200, and would love a 6300... and, the receiver is near the TOTL, as others have suggested. This is definitely a good stack! The price? Again, as others have suggested, not a terrible deal, but not a super-score. If you have the cash and need some real nice gear, I'd offer $500-$600 and see what he says. BTW, the cartridge could be a winner, as someone with a 6300 probably didn't toss a simple AT92 on there!

Thanks for the input everyone! I bought the set for $684 (all I had on me). He was very hesitant to go below $700, so I took what I could get. He originally asked $750.

The 6300 came with a Shure V 15 Type III. Don't know much about this cart but I'm assuming it's a keeper. Everything works great with the turntable, just a little dusty.

The cassette deck just looks nice, but plays tapes too slow. I'll never use it anyway.

Now the receiver is what blew me away when I turned it on! Holy cow, man. I can barely turn it past 12 o'clock. I was using a 2270, but there must be something wrong with it because this thing is just blasting it out of the water. Little crackle when I turn the tone knobs, and the thing was super dusty inside. Going to have to give it a cleaning.

When I took off the wood case I was surprised to see that there was no cover to the receiver, but the wood case was acting as the shield. Is this normal?

I had to buy the 2275 or the guy wouldn't sell me the 6300. I'm not complaining. But assuming both of them need to be cleaned and serviced I'm wondering which I should keep in the end.

You got some sweet gear. You don't always have to get the lowest price anyone has ever paid to get a good deal. I think you did pretty well for yourself.

Well, the metal cover should be on the receiver, that's a bit of a bummer. However the Shure V15 type III is a real plus IMO.

Nice job - the Shure cart is a real bonus - that is a great cartridge discussed many times on AK.

Congrats on nice gear!
