Should I just toss this lp

I have a mint copy of Mingus, Tonight at Noon. While a lot of his stuff I do not really enjoy this Atlantic lp is great to my ears. The problem is a repeat flaw about 3 min. in. There are no marking on the lp and I do not see any visual defects. Are there any solution to fix an obvious factory flaw?

Look carefully- you might see a white blob of crap blocking the groove. Sometimes you can use a wooden toothpick to clear away an obstruction.

Don't pitch the record. If you have weird luck like me, you will find another copy with a skip on the other side.

If you can pin down the spot where the skip occurs, you can sometimes fix it by rubbing fairly hard in the direction of the grooves with a soft cloth wetted with isopropyl.

If you can't fix it, you can always replace it. Tonight At Noon isn't one of Mingus' more sought after releases so it can be had for not much money, unless it's the original 1965 release.

Actually, Tonight At Noon is an album drawn from two different sessions, the one that produced Oh Yeah and the one that resulted in The Clown. The tracks on Tonight are outtakes, though, so it's not a compilation in the usual sense.

Still, buying the earlier albums is a viable option because they contain much the same material as Tonight and more of it. Also, it gives you more of one of the most interesting and one of the briefest collaborations in Jazz, that of Mingus and Rahsaan Roland Kirk on Oh Yeah. As far as I know, these two unique geniuses only ever recorded here on Oh Yeah and on Mingus At Carnegie Hall. (Oh Yeah is the better showcase, IMO.)

Good magnifier and a wooden toothpick. There's probably a bit of junk in a groove, as previously mentioned.

A 3x, 5x, or even 7x Jewelers loupe can be found fairly cheap and is worth having around just for these really weird situations.

I just saw a 20x for $6 on Ebay. That level of magnification, of course, is looney. You'd end up scratching the record just getting anything into focus.

You can also take the toothpick and break it with a twist, so there's a long, thin splinter. Might have to try a couple to catch a good break, but it can get simultaneously finer-tipped and more forgiving.

yes my friends it is the original!!!!!! I know the general location so I will try the isopropyl. If it does not work gasoline and a match next!

toothpick and iso alcohol saved a miles davis record ( A prestige second NJ second press) that I bought for 3 bucks. After the tooth pick I rubbed hard with a cloth and iso ( the vinyl got warm). It worked! A small pop but no skips!

I like a Bamboo skewer better than a toothpick. It is at once harder and more oily, so it is less likely to scratch.
