Should I risk making the wife mad?

Must be the right time of year or something. Hitting up the local Craig's List and finding all kinds of (maybe) good deals.

Unfortuantly, I don't know the equipment that well, and to be honest, I'm too tired to research it right now. What's your thoughts?


Kenwood KA-405 Reciever/Amp $15

Not sure if any of that stuff is worth it. Depends what it's gonna cost ya, And I don't mean money wise.

I'm really tempted to grab at least a pair of the Kenwood speakers and either the H/K amp & tuner or the Kenwood unit regardless. :D

I really don't know my home audio at all regarding devices.

I highly doubt I'll have any real way to audition any of the equipment beforehand either way.
 
Well, pissing off a wife is not a case of "if", it's more a case of when.
It's gonna happen, whether you do it intentionally or by accident.
At least it is like that for me.

Personally I would check out the stuff, and bring home what is good.
 
Well.... the wife might get mad but she will eventually get over it, and you will still have the gear! :D I bought a new set of golf clubs that way! BTW, this may only work a few times so use it sparingly!:D
 
I don't think I'd take that chance over a $30 pair of old Kenwood speakers! I'd have to save that for something bigger myself. :D
 
I'm with avguytx -- save the wife-pissing-off for bigger and better scores. As clyde said, you only get so many of these... :D
 
If you have a spare $100 why not just grab it and growl? I'd at least buy the H/K stuff, some of it is really desirable, although I've never owned any. But for $35?

If you don't have any vintage gear, I think it's a good place to start.

That's what I've heard too.
The rest of the stuff is under my radar or nothing special, but the HK gear is definitely worth a shot.
 
ShaneC it is obvious you need the quidance of an old Jeti warrior when it comes to vintage stereo collecting and associated perils. I am here for you my son. Just follow the instructions listed below.:scratch2:

1. Learn from this site what is collectable and what is best left alone.
2. Buy the good stuff (everything you can) and spare no expense.
3. Bring it all home.
4. If the wife complains tell you she is right and you have a solution.
5. Send it all to me.

If the seller still has it this weekend, I'm going to go ahead and pick up the HK units.

I guess I should have pointed out that all I'm after currently is a cheap(ish) low power, but clean sounding setup for here next to the computer. Not really "high" quality - but above average.
 
The HK stuff is way above "average". They flew under the radar for a long time, but there products were well made, and they typically performed at a much better level than their specs. They do fall victim to the normal time-related problems of cranky pots and the occasional blown capacitor.
