Hi to all.
Brought my MC7100 for after purchase service check. The price for check in was right and they just found out a bias problem that was solved in timely manner . No extra charge no stories. Like the transparency and honesty. no associated to them, just give my feedback to a Mac Service rep in Tampa area.
now my babies are together again.

Well, it's the knowledge to do it correctly and the liability to take responsibility if something goes wrong.

Not everyone is a tinkerer and more than a few amps have been blown by a new bias setter.

Well the fee is for the inspection. To move the potentiometer, as you say require equipment, and knowledge, after that the amp was tested under load to ensure the “few degrees” in both channels were good adjusted, that imply to check it again. Certain things looks simple but they are not.

Total equipment needed, 1x screwdriver, 1x ordinary multimeter. Total knowledge needed-- google service manual and read one paragraph describing procedure. Typically, bias is checked at idle, not under load.

Bias is checked at idle, that's fine and good.

When I worked in a transmission shop I'd replace lots of automatic transmissions, usually averaging about one a day.
Do anything that much and you get good at it.
You would never put a transmission in a vehicle and return it to the customer without a thorough test drive up a hill speeding.

Sure you may do the procedure a lot, maybe every day. Maybe you can do it blindfolded...
You still should always check your work, and if you can check your work on the edge of what is considered abuse, then you can be confident you not only fixed it, but that it will stay fixed. A competent tech will always check their work. That's what's covered in those "bench fees"
