I’m looking for inspiration on lighting my turntable and casting some ambient light around that area. I’m working in the dark currently and I need something to aid my old eyes.

As they say, each to their own, but I don't have my turntable on display.

My main vintage audio gear, Leak 3400 tuner/amp, Philips 308 turntable, Sharp RT-2500 cassette deck and Goodman's Havant speakers, live in our small, 9' x 12' front room.

Together with a Sony android TV and soundbar with under it, a DVD player, two Humax tuner/recorders and a Virgin 360 box and my Yamaha YTS62 tenor sax.(It "hides" behind the TV, safe from my wife and her vacuum cleaner).

There's also my two Rock-Ola 507 Tri-Vue Jukebox wall boxes on which I can select mp3s played through the Leak.

Then there's my Yamaha Tyros 5 electric piano

There's only room for a couple of "Stressless" leather recliners
There's a lot of stuff in your face in there.

So I prefer my turntable and cassette player, to "live in a cupboard in the dark," in the wall unit we bought in the seventies. I prefer it that way. Though I can turn a light on in there.

I do have a strip light in both large top cupboards, this one stores some CDs and music books.

When it comes to "display" I think these in our summer house at the bottom of the garden are quite noticeable.

Mine is mounted under the tt. Being that I have a masters degree in klutziness I decided it's best not to have a light where it can come crashing down and ruin something expensive. Even with me being visually impaired it provides enough light for me to see where to place the stylus.

I'm kind of into lighting and usually put a lot thought into it, but my TT lamp was $12 from Amazon. Dimmable and warm/white hue settings.

Nothing fancy. Just that flexible LED/magnifying glass lamp. It does work well as the primary light for videos. :)

Oblivious.

Here’s what I use. The smaller lights are actually what was used by DJ’s around the globe as far back as the 1970's They’re variable brightness and use a Halogen bulb and shine directly on the arm. Sadly as far as my searches turn up, both the light and even the bulbs are next to impossible to find but, were the industry standard. I also use a tiny LED light attached to the table that shines up directly to the stylus.
The taller goose-neck LED lights give more light where needed though cold in temperature and mostly light the platter. So, three small concentrated lights per table, none of that silly flood light look. These are small and each light shines on to a specific area. Great when room lights are down and I only want certain areas of the tables lit.

I dislike it when you see the most inappropriate light that one can find being used on a table, that looks absurd and in poor taste. It shows a lack of effort in system building. Some folks even use desk and table lamps, how uncaring of esthetics and if they fall over..... good-bye, table, record, arm and cartridge.

Below: Two identical tables and arms. A Delos cart. on the left and a Kleos on the right. As set-up can easily facilitate going from one disk to another with minimal disruption of mood and timing. I run three tables, to the right of these two shown is a Thorens TD-125 with a Benz-Micro 'Gull-Wing', see below.
